Exactly, Osullivan's a confidence player, and knowing that his mistakes are likely to go unpunished just frees him up.

    • I think all players are confidence players. What Ronnie did to Williams this afternoon, very few players could do anything about it. I was one visit stuff, its not like Mark was getting loads of chances. He did well to win the last two frames of the session, as would any player in that situation. Ronnie couldn't keep up what was nearly flawless snooker for 6 frames running. His pot percentage went from 93 at the start of the session to 96 at one point. Over two sessions of snooker I think that is probably the highest percentage I've ever seen.

You're absolutely right. Mark didn't get a lot of chances. But the problem is, when your opponent is hitting the ball so accurately as Ronnie did this afternoon, you'll have to be as sharp as possible to stay in the match. And Mark missed a couple of chances in the first one or two frames when he got in and it proved to be crucial. Had he scored better in those one or two, he could have stayed within striking distance, which would be some success considering how Ronnie played throughout the session.
        All the way Mark J!!

        • how often has Ronnie blown big leads from playing superbly? I can't think of very many occasions, personally.

          • Another fine mess

Ronnie's haircut makes him look like Stan Laurel.

Looking forward to an O'Sullivan v Trump final.

                • Barry Hearn must be dreaming of an O'Sullivan v Trump final. And the way they're both starting to play could make it a true classic.

yeah, it spells record viewing figures of recent times, lots of attacking play, excitement, drama and a shed load of high breaks!!

                    • I can't see ROS beating Robertson, unfortunately. Roberton is like Higgins and is a terrible match up for ROS in a long match IMO.

                      • IMHO he has more a chance to beat neil than higgins

and if he is focussed he can beat anybody

True, but some thrive on it more than others and suffer more when they lack it.

                            Unfortunately, that's a big IF.
I don't know if he's really determined to win the title here and possibly no one can.

                            • by the look of yesterday he is really up for it
played for snookers which isnt his cup of tea

think after seeing higgins and selby out he is more determeined to succeed, these kind of players could have hurt him with their matchplay

He is usually playing for one, maybe two snookers, so, that's not something new.
Problem with Selby is Ronnie doesn't respect his game at all and never gives his best to beat him. Higgins, on the other hand, is a prolific scorer and excellent tactician, kind of player anyone would struggle against.
Still plenty of snooker left to see if he's up for it (=
