Much better having money on Robertson or O'Sullivan or Maguire even I think, they have better shot selection and have the control and adaptability to scrap out games!
True - thats why I stuck a tenner on Robertson at 11/1 at the start. Can't believe Judd was 6/1 or somewhere in that region. On form clearly he can make the game look easy but his match play is surprising bad at times.
Forget it, Donny, you're out of your element

Obviously the 1st prediction i made without betting on

Must say I'm not a carter fan, dont really know why, never really enjoyed watching him play.

This is the 1st time i've been up for carter to win. Just think Trump needs a few hidings before he will respect the game and then i'm sure he will will the worlds.

Yeah I've stuck a tenner on Robertson too, though admittedly I think/thought Trump would win the thing.

he was a ridiculous 4/1 with the bookies on skybet, people like robertosn and osullivan and (usually) higgins or even stevens or carter are better bets than him, all have better shot selection and matchplay and are more controlled, some of trumps ridiculous thrashing of the balls tonight on already difficult long reds was amateurish (I know that's an insult to a pro but that's what it was), surely someone needs to tell him that he has to stop playing up to the crowd and his "naughty snooker" brand thing he's got going and start playing more percentage matchplay snooker???? He annoys me at times that he seems to think he's a machine who can pot anything even when under max pressure and his long potting is off like tonight! I like watching him play but he does annoy me as much as he entertains me, part of being a pro is knowing when to play the right shots at the right times, and which shot is correct in which situation!

BBC Radio Five Live just announced that Judd Trump was leading Carter by 5 frames to 3 on their sports news.

            Clowns.

Agreed. He is great to watch, can make the game look so easy, but he is annoying at the same time becuase he doesnt get that because he goes for the shots he does, more or less any player on the tour has a good chance of beating him.

Ok, when they are flying in for him, he's probably going to beat anyone. When they start rattling the jaws, any player on the tour has to fancy thier chances of beating him.

Trump is playing tactically also, trying to pot every single ball on the table to try and put your opponent under more pressure is a tactic, it just won't work all the time.

His style of play will change in time but at the moment that is what works for him and it is great to watch so idc.

With his talent HE should care, care enough to realise that he cant always pot all the balls, potting all the balls is not a tactic, it's just potting everything, tactics are the other side of the game, you get one career, and whatever needs to be done has to be done to make the most of it, especially when you're as talented as Trump is, he could genuinely slam the season if he learnt more matchplay in a few years, that's how highly I rate him, I'm a fan too as many others are! All pro players are great when the balls are flying in and they feel great, they're pros, of course they can play fantastic, that's being a pro, pro sport is about how good your B game is, only Ronnie's A game is better than everyone else's, and even then only by a little with certain players, in all of sport, only darts player Phil Taylor's A game is unbeatable, if he plays his best, he never loses, that is true, he scores too highly and has too many shots at doubles to win matches to miss all of them, Ronnie is beatable on his A game, but only just, Trump is nearly as talented as Ronnie in my view, he's just not as good a match player, he has a massive job on tomorrow, whatever happens, he HAS to draw the session, minimum!

Trump will learn more matchplay in a few years, there is no doubt about it. Right now however he is a big draw for snooker, I doubt the WPBSA want him to change his play style any time soon.

yeah I'm sure he will, I'd say he can still go for the odd one, but tonight he went for a few too many, one of the shots I loved was the unexpected one where he chipped the black safe on the left side cushion when I thought he'd smash it into the top corner, but as he got behind he seemed to go for more and more and more, perhaps he's not very confident from behind and got desperate, who knows how he was thinking, but he's gradually learning there's more to snooker and long frame matches than just potting and ok safety at times!

Trump isn't anywhere near Ronnie when it comes to cue ball control.
As for his style, I don't like his shot-to-nothing attempts with balls literally flying around the table all the time, so, I don't find him that great to watch. I like his breakbuilding despite his nervous cue ball movement, though. It's a lot more entertaining than his long potting for me.
I know he's just a young lad, but I don't think that has got something to do with age. To say the least, it can't be the only factor. He's just two years older than Ding and I don't remember Ding making so outrageous attempts even when he was 18.
That's the difference in my eyes. Ding is better suited to be the next Hendry and in a couple of years of time, he will start to dominate (this is a prediction, not a statement!), whereas Judd will be crowd's favorite to play the wingman to Ding.

good post, do u think he'll be a bit like Jimmy White? I hope not, how Jimmy never "completed" his CV with a World title I'll never truly understand, a certain scot has a lot to answer for!! lol Ding is a shed load more mature than Trump, he's just as good a break builder too, having seen the session tonight I'm totally 50 50 on this match now, Trump needs a good start tomorrow, he HAS to draw the session, minumum, but I need to see a bit more control from Judd and a bit more patience to make me believe he can get to a final, or even win this match, Carter is doing everything he needs to do in terms of matchplay to stop Judd, he's doing a very hard, professional job of this match!

He's too young to write off for winning the Worlds, after all. He may have at least 10 to 15 years of good chance, I suppose.
But judging by his current performance, I don't think he's as comfortable as he was in last season, now being a huge favorite is taking its toll a little bit.
Apart from a couple of missed balls, Carter looked very solid in every department. He might have looked negative at times, but it's Trump's style that forces his opponents to go tactical. If he doesn't play a strong second session, he may well be on his way out.

carter was very smart, he realised that going negative would push Judd to go for too many, and his long game was off, therefore it was a win win situation for him, I'd like to think Trump would win the worlds, I just wish he'd show a grasp of taking the match circumstances into account, if his opponent is struggling, lock him up and get easy chances, ie carter tonight, if he's just scrapped for an hour and won a frame to go 2 clear and he needs 2 more frames, play a hard tactical frame, dont just throw your cue at the first long pot going, I'm not saying he should change his style, just have a bit more intelligence about him during matches if that makes sense!
