  • Andrew Higginsion v Jamie Jones

Higginson could possible be the dark horse for this tournament! A finsalist before, plenty of match experience uneder his belt, capable of scoring heavy fairly quickly also.

Jones is obviosuly talented and will be out there enjoying himself.

    Should be a good game.

    I'll go for Higginson 13-9

Not really to bothered about this match, I just assume that whoever wins will get thrashed in the QF, hopefully some great snooker can change my mind tomorrow.

        My prediction is 13-8 Higginson.

Winner of this match will face who?

Higginson's a steady match player but never really fulfilled his potential. Feel that Jamie Jones riding the crest of a wave at the moment will see this through & book his first QF place. Can definitely see him cementing a top 16 place by this time next season. 13 - 11 Jones

When looking at the draw this was probably the least expected match for the two qualifiers to get through. I always had this down as Lee vs Murphy yet in a way I'm now looking forward to this one. Both played really well and if they can continue their form it should be a close encounter. I actually think Jones is the favourite here, his form recently has been very good and has always had a lot of potential as a junior but not yet realised it in the pro game. A late developer in a way but at 24 he maybe coming into his best years and could be a top 16 player very soon.

I think it's great seeing two qualifiers get through. I can only imagine how excited they are to be there.

Sligthly off topic but is there anything explaining Jones' unusual cue position on his jaw/cheek? Something with his eyes maybe?

delibrate foul from jones wont get questioned as much as cao surely its a more clear cut form of cheating

Hm, interesting point of view. I'm not sure I agree though, because a deliberate foul is not the same as trying to avoid a penalty for a foul shot. He just decided it was in his interest to accept the penalty and try to play on for two snookers. He also gave Higginson a ball in hand and a good shot at the pink, which Higginson then potted. So not a big deal in my opinion.

Anyway, weird frame, both players trying their best to lose it. Higginson will be angry with himself, as he could have pushed on for 6-2.

Jones played the ball on and hit it fairly. What happens after that is immaterial: there's nothing in the rules to say that Jones couldn't play the shot he did. Senior referees have previously discussed this and concluded that it was acceptable.
