I think the problem with Hendry was that the centuries started to dry up when he was as old as O'Sullivan is now. O'Sullivan looks pretty good to break that record at the moment, but we are all assuming his numbers wont drop down dramatically. I think we are right, but we shouldn't take it for granted.

Then there is also the number of tournaments to consider, as well as the evolution of the tables of course. Hendry started his career in the 80s, on the thicker cloths, while O'Sullivan has played on the faster tables right from the start of his career.

I don't think it ultimately matters much though... For instance, O'Sullivan and Higgins are the same age, and they started their careers at the same time. They have a very similar legacy, as far as tournament wins are concerned, but the gap in centuries is quite significant.

I think you're right in this aspect, but it's always said that Hendry had much less tournaments to play, back in his early days, which is surely a true assessment.
Then again, Hendry played more seasons than Ronnie on pro tour. So, if he doesn't retire for a couple of seasons from now, he's likely to take over the top spot from Hendry. With the heavy schedule, however, he may lose it to someone else easily in the future.

Two legends going out at the same tournament?
Now, that would really be some buzz Ronnie would love to create. Most successful and naturally gifted players hanging their cue after the same tournament..
That would really be more like Ronnie O'Sullivan.

He's made roughly 50 this season and is only 100 behind - he could do it inside 2 years easily if he plays well/enters tournaments.

He is enjoying his snooker after a long time now and will play at least 3 years

Maybe he wont attend most ofthe ptcs and oversea tournaments but he will still play the big ones

I think the players he ment was Carter and himself.
Carter because of his medical condition and himself because he doesn't enjoy it anymore. (And because of all those tournaments outside the UK)
If he wins the WC I cannot see him play on. He and his ego would really love to go out with a bang, and this is probably the last chance he has to do so.

I've got a nagging feeling that he'll retire after this tournament.

Ronnie's post match PC. He was asked about Hendry's retirement and said he wasn't suprised because of the schedule, then said there might be 1 or 2 more players retiring - anyone else think he might be talking about himself? It might explain his attitude in this event aswell. 1 last hurrah.

    Pray I'm wrong though.

I hope not, I don't like to be wrong...

I got 2 out of 3 for O'Sullivan in this event, 3 out of 4 if he beats Stevens. And also 3 out of 4 quarter-finals, so it's not that bad. Don't ask me about the 1st round though...
