He should just take a break from it for a while and then make a comeback

He probably should have retired a few years earlier. For me his aura has totally gone. Its a shame new snooker fans couldnt see him live during his pomp, he simply was the best. Thanks for the memories Stephen.

Are his commitments in china snooker related? I suspect so but if not playing what?

I am so upset right now. My first memories of snooker are cheering him on. I've always rooted for him against anyone else.. I'm really gutted. This defeat must have been galling, and I hope he rethinks this..

So true. It has been hard seeing him strugle the last few years, knowing how good he was back then. Thank You for the many great memories Stephen Hendry. And when the last match is forgotten it must be said that he ended in style, making a 147 and sending the ruling wolrd champion out of the tournament.

Well having grown up with snooker in Hendry's hay days, and growing to love the sport, Hendry has had a lot to do with that. He has been one of my most favorite players to watch of all time. Thank You Stephen!

I want to hear what Davis has to say.

It's kind of sad Hendry doesn't enjoy just playing anymore.

                          Different strokes...

Higgins is quoted saying 'Davis enjoys playing, Hendry enjoys winning'. And that's it.

Yes Hendry is a Real Legend of the Game of Snooker, But I do see his Point of View as he is Very competitive and if he cannot win Tournys just entering isnt good enough as we all know at lower level its bad enough if We Cannot Win!.

I cannot beleive the Way he Played today against Maguire Worst for a Very Long time! And Missed so many easy Balls Including that Pink which he was right behind and black on Spot and he didnt even rattle Pink!

And now the Questions Start How on Earth did he Beat Higgins 13-4?? And Yes there are lots of Talking of a Dive from Higgins in Some Bookmakers! May come out in Paper may Not? SSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

So, a decision made months ago, eh? It must be tough for him to play every match, every frame and in the very end, every shot as possibly his last.

I've been watching snooker for a decade from now. So, I never saw him playing in his heyday. But even in the early 2000s, Hendry's determination and winning attitude was so apparent that I never quite liked him, as a fan of golden generation from 1992.
But I know that this is what makes you a great champion. You'll have many fans and fans of other players won't really like you.
Hats off to Hendry. It's hard to find someone who will look back at his career and find very little to regret about, if he finds any, of course.
I got someone, darts player Phil Taylor, the greatest and most successful sportsman in the world and one of the top 5 most successful sportsmen of all time.

Ive been watching snooker 24 years, I'm 29, lifelong fan, I can remember watching in 87 88 Doug Mountjoy, Dean O'Kane and others, just as Hendry started to rise and Davis tried to cling on, one of my sporting heroes, see my previous post on page 1! Very sad, but pleased he's doing what he thinks is right!

that's why I loved the vs Bingham session, people below 25 wouldnt have seen Hendry in his prime bar doing research, to see him play like that was just immense!
