  • put ali back in, or make him play the swerve round the blue again, all eggs in one basket, could never get it safe if he missed, the red was at ali's mercy if maguire missed, cant believe he didnt let ali do the work there!!

    • The brown, then the snooker behind the black, from the ridiculous to the sublime.

Yes, ridiculous shot. He was playing a great tactical frame as well, getting balls off cushions and giving himself a chance. He also had a lot of luck after missing two pots, getting the cover both times.

And then he plays that stupid brown... Doesn't look like it will cost him though.

        • Mags could well regret not putting Carter back in, I wonder if Ali would have done the same thing?

EDIT: Sorry, I misread the situation.

          • I don't like it when people say the miss rule should be scrapped. Maguire put Carter in an amazing snooker and should be allowed get as many points as he can. If it's an impossible snooker, then well done to him. At times it's almost as if a very good snooker is better than an amazing snooker.

            • Great stuff on the colours Ali, hats off to him, Maguire deserved to lose the frame anyway due to that stupid shot selection! Great ref decision on the miss too!

              • Brilliant Red and even better Green and Brown. Ali deserved to win that frame - looking bad for Stephen now.

                • This must really be getting to Maguire now... Every time there's a close frame Carter wins it on the colours. If Carter gets to 16 before the interval, it's all over.

I wouldn't put Carter back in. The snooker was fluked after all.
                    All the way Mark J!!

                    • I have to say if you're going purely by form and not reputation, Ali Carter is the favorite for this tournament.

                      • how was a miss not called? i don't care how close he came, hitting it at that pace (to leave safe if he did make contact) he never gave himself the best chance to hit the red which means that a miss must be called. I'm rooting for Ali but that was harsh on Steven Maguire and a poor decision by the def in my opinion

                        • Can anybody explain what happened in that last frame?
Why wasn't Carter supposed to repeat that shot?

I don't understand it, really. Why was it called a miss in the previous attempts, then? The shots he played were all along the same line.

No miss was called by the referee.

                              • Did he touch the ball?! How could it not be a miss?
