I don't believe winning is the only thing in a sport. I never like the attitude of winning addicts, like Hendry, to keep the victory over anything else. Everyone is free to stick to their own approach, of course (=

it is professional sport, in amateur sport or knock around with mates then u try to win but if u dont then it's not so bad, but when it's your job u do what u have to do to win, u dont be successful or make money from losing after all!

it is professional sport, in amateur sport or knock around with mates then u try to win but if u dont then it's not so bad, but when it's your job u do what u have to do to win, u dont be successful or make money from losing after all!

I agree with you, to a degree. But these players are at the top of the game, winning more than enough money to make a living.

I will say Ali's been better this match, better shot selection, better matchplay, think Maguire tried to go for too much early on, wouldnt say he didnt give Ali enough respect, if that's what he thinks then fine, but he attacked too much I think! Ali definitely deserves to win I think!

I thought he would be fresh for the business end of the tournament, having had three fairly easy matches in the first three rounds. But it actually looks like it's worked against him. It just seems to me that he wasn't really ready for a battle. Not until it was too late anyway...

I know where you're coming from, that 2008 final really was one of the worst matches I've seen. Carter accepted his defeat as early as the first session and everyone felt it.

But I've seen enough matches to know that you should never give up. You just never know when something might surprise you in snooker. Carter is really playing some tough match snooker at the moment. I'm sure he will at least give O'Sullivan a better match this time.

I nearly watched all of the matches up to this point. And the ones that I didn't completely watch, I definitely had a look at some parts of those.
Can't see Carter sticking to O'Sullivan, who rallied past Ebdon, Williams, Robertson and (hypothetically) Stevens.

I think the one not to call a miss after 6 attempts. It was a really horrible snooker and he got within a fag paper. Took a brave man to call it but I agreed with him and the experts on TV did too. Well done Leo - good call. Was with him in the pub last night - lovely bloke. Hope he's rewarded with doing the final in the near future.

I know everything can happen, so, I'm not ruling out anything or something like that. But, in all honesty, every time these two play, Carter looks like O'Sullivan's pupil, who is destined to lose to his master.
I'm afraid, inch by inch, we're leaning towards an anti-climax final to the Worlds.

that's true, but players at the top have a chance to make a name for themselves in history, that's what the worlds is about, and other ranking events, its about being able to say "i won tournaments, i got to finals, I make maximums and x number of centuries, i want just a better than average pro. I was one of the best" this is the mentality of pro sportsmen, this is why all pro sportsmen become pros, for the glory and the thrill of winning, that's what makes the work they put in worthwhile!
