Alan Hansen's salary is confirmed to be £1.5 million, it is inevitable that the main presenter will be paid more than this, and suspected that Lineker may be on as much as £3 million. Graham Norton is paid £2 million pa, and Jonathan Ross famously used to be paid £6 million pa.

I don't believe the referees are paid anything spectacular, I read about it somewhere on here before, can't find the thread now... however expenses are paid presumably? and it seems a great job.
Anyone any ideas on there wage?

Can't comment on what they get paid but I think it's high time the BBC did a review of their commentary team and actually listened to the viewers.

For me, JV has become very annoying with his constant "where's the cue-ball going?" It wasn't too bad when he just said it now and again but it's become like a "catchphrase". I don't know why he feels the need to keep saying it as on the whole I quite like his style.

The Great WT as he calls himself - never understood that one really - he is the most overrated of them all and I can't think of a good word to say about his commentaries. Sorry Willie.

Dennis does ok but does tend to open his mouth without giving much thought to what he's going to say but as a former World Champ he's still just about worth his place, I suppose.

I spent 3 brilliant days in Sheffield this week and on Thursday when they announced that Dennis and WT were in the box I actually took my earpiece off and put it in my pocket - no way did I wan't them ruining my enjoyment of the semi-finals.

Of the "newer" commentary men - they all do a good job and it's nice to have their fresh views. Ken Doherty, Steve, JP and now Stephen are all good value and offer plenty of quality to the BEEB's snooker presentation.

If I had to pick of all the commentators, who I most enjoy listening to, then I'd pick Neal Foulds and Terry Griffiths every time - both witty, knowledgable and don't talk for talkings sake. Such a pity they only get used for the first week and a bit.

Lastly, spare a thought for the God Father of the commentary box, Clive Everton - much missed as the BBC Senior Commentator.

I seem to be the only person who never liked Everton.

My favourites are Terry Griffiths and Ken Doherty.

                  Re the Commentators,

There has been a post re this subject before RE the standard of the commentary team. but here is my opinion.

Hendry is articulate and informative , obviously totally in touch with the modern game.

Fould's also bright , good presenting voice .

Griffith's not bad , the voice is clear ,and he does grasp the modern game [ probably due to his coaching of the elete ].

Taylor , nice man, but he is either going senile , or he was never any good in the first place,[ i think we just accepted his style over the years and commentary because of that final ,]now he is being shown up by the new kid's on the block .

Davis is good next to Hazel and Parrott in the studio , but a truly awful presenter , his droning voice is terrible , he also waffles his constant talking kills any tension that may be building in the arena .

Finally Virgo , i have said it before , if you have a voice like that ,you should be no where near a microphone, its gutteral and vulgar , he with his new annoying catch phrase , is trying to re visit his TV personality day's . plus his analasis is outdated by at least ten year's .

I must say, I was getting really irritated by Dennis Taylor this tournament. Especially from the semis. I admit by the time the semi-final line-up was announced, there was only one winner, but Taylor's toadying up to Ronnie was sickening.

How many times did he ask Hendry if he considered Ronnie to be a better player than him? It was more than once. Why did he need his opinion that Ronnie is the best validating so much? It was cringe-worthy, and disrespectful to somebody who has achieved as much as Hendry.

I'm sure Taylor was just trying to hype up the future world champion, I doubt he meant any harm, he is starting to say some weird thing in his old age anyway.

It's not so much that he said it, but he must've said it a half-dozen times. Asking the question is one thing, but continually badgering your commentating partner to say that somebody else was better than them seems odd.

last time i spoke to one of them about it they were paid £400 a session by the bbc for the voice over the match commentary when doing one or two sessions per day. I suspect some of the 'talent' have better contracts than that though.

Willie Thorne , He has a habit of giving betting odd's or mathamatical percentages on practically every shot during a frame , these are, based on his perception of the difficulty , never taking into account the player who is taking the shot's ability .

He doe's though have a good idea regarding break building and positioning , i would Keep him for now , but i bet he is the next to get the chop .

Clive Everton was the voice of snooker [ after of course Ted Lowe,] but because the world is now obsessed with celebrity culture , and because he was not a player , his opinion and commentary according to the powers that be, The BBC count for Nothing. Plus being a Journalist his articulate summary , probably was his undoing [ they like things dumbed down these days !!

He did bring gravitas to the commentary [in particular to the final ,] but i suppose Des Lynham was missed, until Lineaker , got up to standard .
