both players prove that you can still play well in your mid 30s

hi, welcome

some years ago there were discussions that these 3 guys Higgins-MJW-Ronnie (all 35 now) are a bit of exception, normally the best years for top sportsmen are at about (25)27-30(32), still in good shape physically and with good concentration etc, but already very experienced and mature.
'cause these 'oldies' currently still at the top were developing under way more competitive conditions than now snooker 'grassroots' (teenagers in local clubs) have in the UK. so the 'oldies' are still too strong for the 'new young' to come through to the top.
Robertson should be hitting the best age about now. Selby, Murphy, Carter probably too. Ding, Allen, maybe Cope should be coming close.
well at least that's one of the theories...

m, also the 2 "new" guys from the bottom of the rankings that played in R1 (or above) - Wallace and Joyce - are not that young are they, about 30 or so.

such type of more general & deeper discussions about what's going on in snooker were dying on here before i joined the forum.
