I see this strange tendency as well. Jamie Burnett, Joe Delaney/Fergal O'Brien, or even Marcus Campbell are not really the kind of players snooker needs. They are not young, not that talented and hardly popular.

I’m also happy that Dave Harold went through. I actually feel sympathy for him because of his cueing style which limits his cue power. However he has on several occasions tricked me into thinking there was something wrong with my TV, which was annoying.

You guy's are nothing more than snobs. What gives you the right to decide what's good for snooker?
These players, while not the most flamboyant on the circuit worked for years to get on the tour and obviously still have the ability to beat some of the so called young guns so please give them the respect that their dedication to the game needs.
It's not ALL about century breaks frame after frame and not everyone can play with the ease and grace that Ronnie does.

Come on snooky, everyone's entitled to their opinions on here. Discuss, disagree by all means but the insults aren't necessary. Besides, I don't think anyone's claiming they'd deny these players the right to qualify, simply that some fresh faces might be a better thing, for the viewing figures and the image of snooker if nothing else.

Like it or not, it's the Ronnies of the game that keep it alive, financially and in the public eye, to the great benefit of the Burnetts and Harolds. It's not unreasonable to be pleased when 'instant thrills' type players get through to the TV stages, and equally not unreasonable to be disappointed when they don't. It's not a question of personal (dis)respect so much as a concern for the future of the sport (in a time when a future is far from assured).

I personally think the clashes we get, between hardworking, battle hardened 'journeymen' and young untempered talent, are a fascinating aspect of the game, and I wouldn't have it any other way, but I recognise that not everyone feels the same.

Well Jimmy lost, as did Jamie Cope and Tom Ford.

Jimmy was 3-0 up and lost 9-4 to Robin Hull. Shame. Haven't had chance to check everything so can't post full results

If you have read my other posts before, I am not a single minded fan of a particular player. Your opinion of relating me solely to Mr. O'sullivan is therefore unfoundedl If you will read back on the thread, who is your favourite player, I have said that I like a variety of players. I can name a few dozen if you want. I am entitled to have my opinion which players I like and which ones i prefer less. Or are you going to force me to like Abba as well? Its a matter of taste. If i dont favour particular players, it does not mean i dont respect them. For instance Graeme Dott is someone i am not really enthousiastic about, but i have the greatest respect the way he won the ultimate title. Also defended him on several occassions on the Beeb board when they had a go at him! If you have read my posts there is a bit of an ironic undertone in it. I thought being from the UK isle you would understand a bit of satire! but unfortunately its all wasted on you! And dont forget I am not a citizen under Mr. Blairs' governement, to try to restrain my opinions!
