  • Thoughts about the upcoming UK Champ

    Its really very difficult to predict who will do well at this years' UK Championship.

    Ronnie - quarter is a must

    Ding - longer matches suits him. tired after the Asian Games though.

    Hendry - impossible to say. probably not longer than quarters.

    Robertson - used to the big stage now. A bit fatigue?

    Davis - Hmm... interesting this one. Maybe a semi?? Or straight out in the first round.

    Williams - dark horse.

    Maguire - lazy brat.

    Doherty - quarters at least

    And finally I hope the audience will not be shamefully small. Luckily they have no TV cameras the first five days...

    I reckon two dark horses could be Dott or Murphy. Both have nice draws compared to others. Also Doherty could be a dark horse but if he meets Perry in the last 16 I fancy Perry to beat him because of his record in the UK and he also beat him 5-0 in their last meeting. Its possibly the hardest tournement to predict a winner for because there are a lot of players coming back to form and if Ding is tired then Stevens will fancy his chances too.

      I think it is fantastic that everything is so tight. Everyone can win and lose easily. Makes snooker really exciting at the moment.

        But it makes mincemeat of my aspirations to beat PaulTheSoave at the end of this season's prediction quiz.

        Serously though, it's great for the game. All we need now it a few more characters. But I don't think you can get to the top these days without beeing a calm, indifferent figure.

          hmmmm
          can't see Maguire
          Hendry...not really, not in his present form...
          Ding...played alot already ..think he's tired..
          Stevens...maybe to quarters..
          Davis..surprisingly alert...beat kendo 5-1 in PL
          Kendo..has he regained his confidence after the PL's?
          Williams..could do it if his wrist is healed and he has trained well
          Can't see Smurphy or Dott to be honest,,,
          Ronnie...sure he can certainly do it if he wants to...
          Robbo,,,mentally tired from winning his first ranking title?
          Higgo...could do it if he's completely at ease with his new cue and has been able to practise well.

          Conclusion: Unsuprisingly, Ronnie is my bet

              Higgins got a new cue? Since when? I didn't know about this.

              About the predictions: I'm still at the lowest position of the competitors who have predicted every single round, so..... what can I say. I'm still the best Austrian, tho.

                    I would still say that a
                    Ding - O'Sullivan final is very much possible

                    Ding is getting warmed up & inspired rather than being tired when he steps out of the jet from Doha, he will shoot through Day and Mattew without danger;
                    Higgins or Doherty would not come in his way until semi, while at that time he is already too tough for them to bite

                    Ronnie now with another league title and he says that he is enjoying the game these days, so I reckon he would be quite safe in such longer format matches;
                    Williams is really good, but likely not enough practice for whatever reason, Robertsen or Dott or Murphy in the same quater, already black and blue in each other's eyes whoever stands a bit longer;
                    And Hendry is almost an invisible seed there to govern that half draw
                    ...

                    The above is not to be considered a well-based analysis, it is more of some kind personal imagination of mine. As snooker is always so unpredictable!

                      I'd say Day is a very dangerous opponent even for Ding. it will be a real test for Ding as in last tournament he didn't too well, so... will be interesting - and I guess Ding will be very focused for a win.

                        Ronnie - he should get quarters

                        Ding -who knows? Maybe quarters or higher

                        Robertson - in good form after grand prix,so can play very well again

                        Davis - this can do anything!!

                        Williams - don't know how he will play after injury

                        Maguire - well, maybe he can do some shocks

                        Doherty - quarters and higher

                        Hendry - it will be good if he gets quarters

                        Dott - not on his best form

                        Murphy - let's see

                        Higgins - quarters and more

                        Lee - cannot predict anything

                        Stevens - got to be in quarters,but can be shcoked

                          I think I'm correct in saying that if he beats Walden, he plays Ronnie,,,could catch the rocket cold.
