  • I wonder if in ten years time (when ronnie is scraping around the 10-16 positions of the rankings making the odd quarter here or there and playing in the world trickshot championships) all those who love Ronnie now will have abandoned him for Mr new popular and all of us who dislike him now will love him for being the past master still fighting it out with the kids (and Steve Davis)

      • Well Ronnie got me a bit nervous there , when Walden got 8-7 up. Uh oh , i am just sooo happy he won!
Takes away the shine of the tournament if Ron leaves in the first round !

And i am very happy for Mark also , way to go !

Well, then let him try to do that by winning Ronnie in the final.

Interesting thought. I guess it's not a very unlikely scenario.

            • Thanks to everyone who allowed me to "see" the O'Sullivan/Walden match. The tensest match "I haven't seen." Thank you.
Well, last year Ronnie went out first round in the decider. It was about time he took it one step further.
And now please excuse me, I'm off to do some totally immature, girlish squeeing.
Go Mark go! (King, of course. )
              And well done, Matthew.

chasmmi, Ronnie is sharing my number 1 favourite player spot with Steve Davis. and guess what, it was first Davis who turned me to snooker, and he was already way past his best years. Hendry still has many fans (though he is still at the top and might be there for some years), and I don't think they will turn away from him just because he isn't winning anymore.
And I don't understand why Ronnie fans should turn away from him?

Well I'm still following Jimmy after all these years and although it would be fantastic to see Ronnie winning shedloads of tournaments, I just consider him a joy to watch. Whatever happens he will still be a genius so I can't see him not being worth watching anymore. Anyway, didn't you just describe last season??

                      • Getting back to a possible Davis McManus match. Didn't they last meet in the LG Cup in 2003. I think it was a quarter or semi's with McManus winning. Hope for a good run from Steve this week.

From what I remember, it was the match where someone in the audience fell asleep and started snoring, holding up play.

                          • Murphy pulled one back to 3-6 with a 79 after Mcmanus broke down on 22, Hull has stolen the first against Robertson coming back from 55-5 down and it seems cagey on the Higgins/King game on the first frame still.

                            • Murphy clawed one back, its now 3-6.

Hull is surprisingly in front against Robertson, 4-5.

I find it very strange there is no televised footage at all of the first week. Or is there?

Alan going to 3-7. could be an early night for The Murphy

                              • Mcmanus has gone 7-3 up with breaks 9f 35 and 45 and counting in this frame, Higgins and King Locked at 44-42 to Higgins in what appears to be scrappy opener and Robertson broke down on 40 and goes 6-4 down to a break of 78 and counting.
