I've just got back from York having watched the first session of the Ronnie v Walden match...I was very impressed with Ricky Walden. He looked good in amongst the balls, as did Ronnie as usual, but there were many kicks and a couple of balls sprung off the cushion! This was especially the case in the second to last frame when Ronnie was clearing the colours (which were on their spots) and the shot from green to brown ended with the white in the other half of the table!! Ronnie missed it, Walden failed to capitalise and Ronnie fired in a long range effort and took the frame. So I actually think Ronnie will be the happier of the two at 4-4 as it could easily have been 5-3 to Walden.
I was sat in between that table and the Williams-Greene one...I fear for Williams who was missing straight pots and running out of position often. Greene suddenly sprung into life after the interval and ran off 3 frames in about 15 minutes! He's always been capable of this but surprisingly he hasn't taken it to the next stage.
I'll be returning tomorrow afternoon to watch the remaining frames...
Also, great to see so many people in attendance...there were no spare seats for Ronnie's match and the Davis section was also pretty full...puts Aberdeen to shame.
