we might miss Maija here and her commentary.... Is she still in Koeln?

Rodney Goggins (Irl) bt Judd Trump (Eng) 9-8
              Shock of the qualifiers!

Don't know what to make of Trump now. As a junior he won everything and broke nearly all junior records. Yet on his second season of the MT he seems incapable of beating lower ranked players, in fact I cannot believe his provisional ranking of 45th, there must be a flaw in the ranking system for him to be so high yet he hardly wins any matches!

This is just one instance of that. Its not fair to say he cant beat low rankers based on just 1 loss. Overall he must be doing quite well to have risen to 45 in his second year. TBH I dont know his results offhand but is supect this is more likely than a flawed ranking system.

surely getting to play at the Crucible last season gave him a lot of ranking points to have a fairly high place in rankings?

It is actually his thrid season on the main tour. His ranking is good because he generally wins his first match thus ensureing he doesn't get half points.

Not lookin good for John Parrott, he's 5-1 down to Ian Preece.

                            Poor John.

With all the talk about whether Jimmy should retire, forumers same may soon start asking the same about JP. Although he hasnt fallen as far as Jimmy and really played well during last years W/C i think it was, he generally struggles badly nowadays.

I guess they all keep plugging away hoping and praying for a consistent return to form.

I think they all feel they can still play to a great standard.

Parrott proved at the world championship that he's still got a good game occasionally. Like Jimmy, he's well past his best but enjoyment is probably their main aim these days and if they want to carry on, who are we to say otherwise.
