having been a hendry fan for around 20 years i find it really sad to see a once great player playing so poorly. his match with stephen lee was embarrasing. i've got over 400 tapes of stephen's matches over the years and at his peak (mid 1990's) he was untouchable. surely the performances over the last few years should tell him it it's time to give up. he surely doesn't need the money? the sore fact is, the majority of players at the top of the rankings wouldn't have lived with stephen at his best.
age has caught up with him and hopefully dropping out the top 16 will persuade him to quit.

Unfortunately for him the PL is not a ranking event...and this first round defeats are very costly as he receives only half the points because he is the seeded player.

Yes, you are right. And he is provisional number 10. Though I agree his play is below par, but says enough of the lack of quality opponents nowadays

it should be said that the field in Bahrain was not the the strongest with so many withdrawals.

Still, he reached the semis at the WC and had he faced anyone other than o'Sullivan he probably would have reached the final. If he played like he did this afternoon all the time I would agree, but should a player still capable of reaching the world final retire?

Why should he quit? He's still one of the best 20 players in the world. He's a match for anyone. I still think that there could possibly be one more ranking event in him. Just like Jimmy, if he enjoys playing there is no reason to give up. He could be 100th in the world, but if he enjoys it, then let him play. Age has caught up with him, but I want the greatest player of all time to play for as long as possible.

He still loves the game and enjoys competing and still believes he has what it takes to win tournaments. He has shown some return to form of late so there is on reason for any of points mentioned why he should think of packing his cue away for good and head for the golf course instead just yet.

Stephen will never quit whilst he is still in the top 16 and capable of beating the best.

OK his long potting let him down today (42% last I saw) but with Stephen if he clicks then he is a very hard man to beat.

And if my memory serves me right eleven years ago people were saying the same about Steve Davis before he won the 1997 Masters (with the help of a streaker)!

If Steve Davis can hang in there with his head held high so can Stephen who I believe WILL win another ranking title.

I must say i agree with Monique...Hendry should retire when he thinks it is the moment to do that....If he wants to play 1 or 10 or 20 years he should do that, because he is the only one to decide.

you don't need to remind me. i seen both tournamemts. whitewashed by selby in the league & a diabolical performace against stevens in bahrain.
i think he should retire gracefully. he's a spent force & has been for some time.....
