Match fixing suspicion in the Maguire - Burnett match
That's a very good point snooky indeed. Matt put a link to the post-match interview of both Maguire and Burnett on his blog. I did not get all of it as Burnett is quite hard to understand for a (half deaf ) non native english speaker... But for sure if the guy despair is fake he's in the wrong business ... he should be an actor then.
They would have paid out on 9-4 I believe but I am not sure on those who bet 9-3. I would imagine after the investigation is over money would be returned to the accounts of those involved. But if there was wrongdoing involved and they somehow trace it I doubt that money would be returned as it would then be potentially a criminal matter.
I could be wrong in this though.
So basically if it finishes 9-4 and you bet on 9-3 you lose your money, but if it finishes 9-3 you get your stake back if it was an 'innocent' bet? What a lovely deal you get...
As I see it, he had quite a few possibilities to loose that frame earlier in a not so obvious way if he wanted to.
1. A really bad safety earlier in the frame.
2. Miss the yellow when snookered.
3. A bad safety on the yellow.
4. Not potting yellow.
I think he was just very nervous on the black.

It is pretty much the only topic of conversation backstage in Telford. When Burnett fluked the pink, a huge ironic cheer went up in a packed players’ room, followed by an even louder one when he missed the black.
What does that mean? Do the players really think that it was fixed
If it was fixed, perhaps he had to miss the black or he could have faced the possibility of not being able to walk again. Personally, I don't see why he would have missed by such a large margin, it's not too difficult for a pro to give the jaws a rattle. I would be interested to hear Templetons thoughts as a pro, although I understand he may not be willing to do so in public.

It is clear from the general tone of the article what their opinion is. Of course scandal will always been selling.
I see several problems with such press. First, of course it is unfair to Burnett who is presumably innocent until proven guilty if he ever is. But worse, chances are that even after he's proven totally innocent his "image" and reputation will be tarnished irremediably. Because I do expect the news about his innocence to get three lines on page 11 ... if they can be bothered to publish it! Jamie Burnett has untill now an impeccable career record. This is a disgrace.

Matt Selt can live with that quite comfortably, although it's true that his case didn't get too much press anyway. I agree though that this is damaging snookers reputation, even if Burnett will be declared innocent.

I'm not too sure this webaite is to be taken seriously though. Judging by some of their other stories, it seems like they're just a bunch of clowns trying to be funny or something.
Surely this website is not a very influential one?
Surely for Burnett the reality of living out his professional career as a suspected cheat is better than living it out as a pro who plays some shots below amateur level...that black is a disgrace whichever way you look at it.
