O'sullivan controversy once again

The reason so many are bringing it up is because its a very common occurence with Ronnie, the other players mentioned have only done it once and I think any player can be forgiven for conceding a frame out of frustration. But Ronnie has a whole history of incidents in games where his opponent has played well or made it a tactical battle and you would think by now he'd have grown up a bit and learned to be humble and accept that when he isn't getting chances to show respect to his opponent and the audience.

That incident yesterday just smacks of a spoilt child who was playing a game and wasn't getting his own way and threw a temper tantrum or to quote Alex Higgins, "I'm not playing anymore". Can't really put it any other way and if people want to defend that then I wouldn't waste my time discussing it as they obviously are of similar mindset to Ronnie.

A lot has also been made of Ronnie O'Sullivan conceding a frame while only 23-0 down during his match against Joe Perry.
I just think it was a heat of the moment thing from Ronnie. I've been practising a bit with Joe recently and he really is a fantastic player. I just think Ronnie got a little frustrated that Joe was playing so well and conceding that frame was the best way for him to release that frustration.
I don't think Ronnie goes out to do these sorts of things, but there is always extra pressure on him because so many fans come out specifically to watch him play.

And in defense of PaulTheSoave, I think this thread was a good idea. Judging by previous responses concerning certain acts of ROS, this one would have brought comments, too. However, by detaching it from the second round discussion everyone had got the opportunity to choose whether to open this "can of worms" or not. And the ones willing to comment on the situation on the other tables didn´t have their chat spoiled.

Day Two: O'Sullivan played like a retard and acted up childishly.

History.

Snooker was created to be a gentlemanly pastime.
A test of not just skill but also character, breeding proper etiquette,

I'm certain Sir Neville Francis Fitzgerald Chamberlain might have called Steve Davis his adopted son,

Nor am I ashamed for not caring. Equating wealth with automatic happiness is childish and immature. Surely, money helps, would be foolish to deny it. Helps a lot, in fact. What money doesn't buy one is protection from oneself.
Ronnie got to be wealthy because he worked hard for it ever since he was 10. His immense talent wouldn't have been anything without hard work, without tournaments all over the country, without hours of practising after school.
And it's the case of all the pros who made it.
All sportspeople.
Everyone who was successful at a certain moment.

what about the gamblers?? i for one sometimes bet on 100 points or more to be scored in a single frame. doing what ron did could have ruined it for someone big time. where the balls were situated and the way joe was cueing looked like there possibly could have been over 100 points.

perhaps ronnie is involved in a betting scandal? should the wsa investigate whether large sums were placed on 99 points or less in that frame?

Dare I say it, there seems to be an un-easy fear of Ronnie O'Sullivan from many pundits. They always seem to be on tenderhooks and worried about what he is going to say or do next. Its crazy - they need to get a backbone and just tell him to stop being a prat!

I remember seeing Ronnie beat Dott in the 2004 World Finals. We were sat about 6 rows back side on to the table and I can tell you some of the people supporting Ronnie were foul. They all liked to think of themselves a mini gangsters. Up in the eaves (those of you who know the crucible will know where that is), that thug ex boxer, whats his name, Naseem Hamed was there with a few of his dodgy mates and they were a total disgrace. Didnt he later get banged up for some traffic thing?? Anyway, since then, Ive seen Ronnie play a few times and the last was last year in the UK final. His following has changed thank God - but he still has issues.

Fact is though people, when he is on form , he is amazing and like him or loathe him, he draws the crowds. Thats why he is allowed to get away with what he does. if they ban him, they may as well cancel the season.
