  • Seems hes brain washed most of the people on this forum, just like how he plays the media, his speech after his last world crown 2 ray stubbs a classic example.
Think we should just brush all his turns under the carpet, clearly his following thinks he can do no wrong and he is above the law and rules.
Wonder what will be next, any1 wana open a book???

I remember seeing Ronnie beat Dott in the 2004 World Finals. We were sat about 6 rows back side on to the table and I can tell you some of the people supporting Ronnie were foul. They all liked to think of themselves a mini gangsters. Up in the eaves (those of you who know the crucible will know where that is), that thug ex boxer, whats his name, Naseem Hamed was there with a few of his dodgy mates and they were a total disgrace. Didnt he later get banged up for some traffic thing?? Anyway, since then, Ive seen Ronnie play a few times and the last was last year in the UK final. His following has changed thank God - but he still has issues.

Fact is though people, when he is on form , he is amazing and like him or loathe him, he draws the crowds. Thats why he is allowed to get away with what he does. if they ban him, they may as well cancel the season.

      • I agree his behavior was childish but just imagine snooker - and this forum - without ROS ...

I can imagine snooker without him very good. I have nothing against him but find him most of the time quite boring. (And yes he shows often brilliant stuff that of course I do enjoy.) So no problem for me.

But this discussion was very entertaining so you have a point...

Are you a Mac Manus or Doherty fan ?

No need to get emotional about this.

No player is bigger than the sport.

I agree with this. His negative attitude at times will finally damage more Osullivan the player than snooker in general.

                      • He seems to thrive after self inflicted humiliations. He returned brilliantly after the walk-out and the China incident last season. He's an recovering addict who likes to hit bottom. I still can't help but think this doesn't look good in terms of him defending his WC title.

I’m not sure about him defending the WC title, but I think he has a pretty good chance of winning the Masters. It’s still 4 months to go until the WC, and without the burden of the UK title on his back he will play under much less pressure, so that can work to his advantage.

Indeed. Alex Higgins probably thought he was bigger than the sport and look where he is now, and the sport didn't end with his departure.

                            • Snooker will hopefully be still around when all of us will have joined Moondan's heaven, the place that's blue because of the so many chalks' dust floating around the souls of all cue sportsmen (and women ) there.

Why are so many persons with a special talent crazy and/or deeply unhappy?

Here is a text on that theme ... it's called "Les poètes", lyrics of a song by Jean Ferrat

Je ne sais ce qui me possède
Et me pousse à dire à voix haute

Et me pousse à dire à voix haute
I don't have the talent to translate it without betraying it, sorry. Art -in all its forms - is born out of pain...

                                I like Doherty, yes.

Maybe it sounds stupid but when I know a player definately will win the frame there is no tense in it anymore. Where is the battle? So you can say he is to good for me.
And I find his personality boring and all the fuss about him I just don't understand.
