If you read through his threatening to quit story on BBC's website, you will see the part where they state he is a commercial pilot.

Snooker players are like smokers it's OK when there doing it then when they give up they want everyone to know about it and then they go on and on about how they used to be an Ex.....

I don't think he'll give it up he likes the lime light to much.

I sincerely hope he doesn't give up but he has been a pro for a similar amount of time as I have been employed in my job and believe me, even a great job can get frustrating. Hopefully he will give a few free lessons in his retirement (best if they are winging their way my way) and I would love to see him have a few games of billiards if snooker has got to him. It could do with a boost. In the mean time if any of you know him, please thank him for giving me many years of enjoyment on the telly, and if your reading this,I'm normally available between midday and two in the afternoonfor a lesson!!!

Most ppl haven't got the luxury of packing in their day job and if the Government get there way we'll have to work till we drop dead. These guys just don't now how good they have it. All that said if he's fallen out of love with the game or the way the game is going then he should pack it in. This is why I love Jimmy White and Alex Higgins for them snooker is/was more than a job it's in there blood they love / loved the game with such a passion. Different breed I suppose.

Maybe Alex higgins wasn't the best comparison there caz.

He never moaned about the 'establishment' or threatened to retire or nowt did he....lol..

Only because they treated him like **** although he did bring it on himself. The thing is Alex might have said it as a threat as he thought snooker couldn't survive without him. He would have never quit snooker and maybe he was right all along he brought snooker to the masses and now MAYBE taken it with him. RIP AH.

never seen him do much tbh. No better than Mark King, say, on his day.
It'll be interesting to see if he goes through with this. I doubt it.

think you need to watch more snooker.

Surely it's just a coincidence that the players feeling sorry for themselves, threatening to quit, are just inside the top 16 or where just inside it. Now they have to work a lot harder for that luxury, the pressure is on. I wonder if it's just coincidence that these idle threats come after a defeat. I mean ffs. Appreciate what you have, knuckle down and improve if things don't go your way. If you still want to quit (an this goes for everyone whinging) then just do it, instead of seeking attention.

Never really rated king to be honest but carter is a class act when on form and could trouble anyone.

Players like king are only there to make up the numbers and occasionally they get a good draw and get a better player on an off day.
I don't like Ali but have to admit he can play.

Crazy commnet, Ali carter i a class act a quality break builder, potter and on his day can beat anyone. Mark king has ability but he also has poor technique (compared to most of his competition) and a bad temperment certainly ot in Ali's class
