Wow, you must be really annoyed about him, but still he seems to be an underachiever over the course of his career. He is the highest century break maker not to win a ranking event.

As for slow style, I think you should try to be more patient about players with it. I never watch a Grinder vs Grinder, but a Grinder vs Attacker is fascinating for me, like in some other sports, offense vs defense is a good matchup..

But I respect your point of view, sometimes it's just annoying that a player thinks of an inevitable shot for minutes..

      • Well that's player style
Hamilton likes safety battles and he a good tactics
        I don't think he's so slooow
good point about Grinder vs Attacker aswell
snooker is not a sport "who is faster?"
this in not f1 , players need to take their time
        and do you like chess?

        • The trouble is, i like attaking snooker with a bit of safety play when its called for. I've got nothing against Hamilton personally, but i do not appreciate his style of play.

I like to see more players like Michael White, Ding, Ronnie etc, etc. The Ebdons, Hamiltons and the likes should start a tour for the own. Then see how many people would be interested in watching them.

I know its not F1 like misssneworleans pointed out, but surely a speedier version of the game and a bit of entertainment is required as well when players are performing!

          • well yes maybe making snooker a bit more quickly will be good but shotclock is not a way...

Actually, Peter Ebdon was more of an attacking player at first, but as results didn't come as good as expected, he had to switch to this style..

I also like to see more of an attacking style, so agreed. But if we take out all grinders, Ronnie will probably just thrash everybody else, so there won't be much enjoyment..

Also, Premier League is in the town for this reason: Entertainment We have a tour that needs focus and good construction of play to earn your way up in the rankings.. So, that's why I'm not against these players..

We have new, attacking young players that are trying to come through the game, but when you get a player like Hamilton, they slow the game down to a snail's pace, take forever to make a shot, go to the toilet numerous times, all in the name of 'TACTICS'.

These sort of players are no good for the game, but will not retire until these youngsters can keep beating them and get them relegated from the tour. They have no thoughts of 'entertaining', they do not care if they bore their opponants and the audience to death, just as long as they get their win, points and prize money, by whatever means.

I hope eventually they bring in a shot-clock of 20-30 seconds per shot, so these type of players cannot keep up with the all new attacking player , who when playing, likes to entertain and enjoy their snooker, not play this pathetic, tactical, unsportmanship game they call snooker.

I've seen a few of these oldies on the tour now, and i cannot wait for them all to disappear off the main tour, so we can get to see some quality, enteraining snooker.
Well, I completely disagree with this. When I see a player trying their hardest to win, that's when I'm most entertained. Seeing someone play the game to a high standard, using whatever element they are masters of, that should be the highlight of any sport. Not seeing someone play exhibition shots when the result is already decided.

A lot of youngsters have come through in recent years, that play a one-dimensional attacking game, with little tactical knowledge. And until they master other aspects of the game, they're just not going to be consistently beating the likes of Hamilton or O'Brien or... Harold for example. And that's the way it should be. Ronnie O'Sullivan is the world number one, and he entertains a lot of people more than any other player. But he's at his best when he plays proper snooker and competes in the safety exchanges.

And let's not kid ourselves... There's not much money to be earned in the early rounds, and every player needs to make a living. You think the young attacking players play that way in the name of entertainment? Sometimes maybe. But mostly, this is the kind of game that helps them win matches, as a lot of the time the experienced player will prevail in a tactical affair. They play to their strengths, and so do the "grinders".

Of course you could give one style an edge over the other by changing the rules, like introducing a shot clock... But at no point in history has the game been more attacking than it is now. Most of the top players play an attacking game, and pretty much all the youngsters coming through are extremely attacking. In fact, this has been a trend for many years now, while the game has declined in popularity in Britain. So making it even more one-dimensional is clearly not the answer.

If the game is ever in a state where a one-dimensional player like Mark Allen (who is a great player in his own right) has more chance of winning than a true master like John Higgins, that's a game I would not want to watch.

                      • Why have they changed page refresh rates on Live Scoring from 20-30 seconds to 90+ seconds.? It makes watching "Live Scoring" a complete waste of time because instead of seeing break as it's constructed you are seeing chunks of scoring. Yet another thing that the WPBSA can not get right.

I didn't think it was a change..I thought it was a problem within the site..

But as soon as I read your comment, I got it and it's very annoying, to see a player's score going up twenty by twenty..
