Higgins got enough points out of the miss anyway (31). You could also argue he benefitted too much from that snooker because Ronnie made several valid attempts to hit a colour that a miss probably shouldn't have been called on if it was being applied in its strictest sense.

and it's not about if Ronnie have given enough points, it's because Ronnie didn't want to leave a chance, thus played a harder shot, because he could have easily hit the black off 2 cushion, this is the risk he took for trying to leave it safe, therefore a miss should be called

That's clearly not true. It's not what the rule says. The rule is about trying to hit the ball. Playing to the best of your ability doesn't preclude accidnetal fouls. It's like crashing your car in Formula One - you're driving to the best of your ability but accidents still happen.

in my opinion, and my interpretation of the rule, it's a miss, and clearly based on fair play, Van has got it badly wrong...

(and my interpretation is the only time when a miss shouldn't be called while preparing to play the shot is outlined in section d, else what's the point of section d?)
