The enforced dress code in snooker is ridiculous. They come out for a morning or afternoon session and they are required to wear a bow tie!
A standard tie is no good anymore , it has to be a bow tie.

Good on SM for finding a loophole , they should all get a doctors note.

        Indeed.

He's got a doctor verified reason not to wear it. End of story.

The match for the billiards championship in 1870 between Roberts and Cook. Dress code hasn't changed since!

to be fair the thread was a genuine enquiry regarding the fact that Maguire does not wear a bow tie and the reasons for it.....that query was answered.

It however raised further , and I believe interesting discussion, on the ethics of the posible advantages it may give him and wether or not he should be exempt in the first place ,furthermore it raised questions regarding the dress code itself - were you not paying attention ?

For me it is all about standards - they are slipping everywhere.

Not sure if I'm having a de ja vu moment or not but I'm sure I've commented on this before!!

Anyway, I think Maguire looks a lot smarter in his 'tucked in' black open necked shirt, waistcoat and trousers than Judd Trumps casual looking white shirt (that comes out of his trousers after a couple of shots) and scew-wiffed bow tie!!!

Also jockying for position - Mark Selby ( Loses out for wearing brown shoes with dark suits ) and Shaun Murphy ( likewise).

In his Q & A yesterday, Maguire said that he would like to see players wearing more casual clothes, specifically mentioning the end of the bow tie. Condition or not, he wanted it off

I'd say OK with Mags...Bow tie is nice and part of the history of the sport but why not making it mandatory only for the finals? I'd like to see the guys playing more often without it, it makes it more relax.

PS: and no offense to Peter Ebdon at all, he's a nice guy, but the best dressed bloke on the circuit? C'mon...he looks like he's got a broomhandle stuck in his butt when fully dressed!

I have no objection to Maguire's not wearing a bow tie. If Monique says it's a bad rash, it's a bad rash.

Interesting top 3 and I have to agree with Sprogbasket at least as far as the first name is concerned. Peter Ebdon always looks impeccable and seems to be the best dressed player - in the classic style. It's also about how one wears certain clothes, elegant or casual. He's one of those who "know" how to wear a tuxedo but then again so do Steve Davis, Ken Doherty, Stephen Hendry and Mark Selby.

I wouldn't put Higgins on that list, not after that "feminine blue" suit he sported a few years ago!

                          Beat me to it, lol

I did however mention he looked horrible with the brown shoes a few tournaments ago!

He also said he doesn't read books, and his favourite class in school was science "because all my friends were in it"... Maguire would be low on my list of people to ask for advice on how to improve the game.

Keep the bow tie and waistcoat for me, looks classy and I hate it when these traditions are lost in many sports. Casual clothes would bring the game down in my opinion.

Same thing in football when you see managers and players not wearing suits when going to and from the club, this shows a lack of class.
