  • Welsh Open First Round Discussions

As always, it's customary for TSF to create First-Round, Second-Round, QF, SF and Finals discussions, keeping the forums clean and tidy. This is the First Round Discussions Thread and although there isn't a forum created for the Welsh Open, I'm sure this will be moved there as well as the "Welsh Opens Discussions" Thread.
Anyway - unfortunately, the BBC will not be active via the red button until the latter stages of the tournament (Semi-Finals, at least - see Order of Play Thread for more details). For those lucky to have Eurosport and BBC Wales, full coverage should be guaranteed!

    First round discussions:

    1.00pm
    Match Q2 – Stevens V. Hicks
    Match 9 – Maguire V. Preece
    Match 11 – Allen V. Swail

    7.00pm
    Match Q1 – Williams V. Gilbert
    Match Q3 – Dale V. Wenbo

    Tuesday 17 February 2009

    1.00pm
    Match 2 – Perry V. Williams/Gilbert
    Match 8 – Murphy V. Pinches
    Match 5 – Carter V. White
    Match 1 – Selby V. Davies
    Match 12 – Hendry V. Gould
    Match 6 - Dott V. Dunn

    7.00pm
    Match 4 – Day V. Judge
    Match 3 – Ebdon V. Hamilton

    Wednesday 18 February 2009

    1.00pm
    Match 13 – Higgins V. Dale/Wenbo
    Match 10 – Junhui V. Stevens/Hicks
    Match 15 – Fu V. O'Brien
    Match 16 – O’Sullivan V. S. Davis
    Match 14 – Robertson V. Burnett
    Match 7 – King V. Harold

These are the first round matches including the qualifiers. Any thoughts? We know that the Selby-Davis match will be televised and I'm guessing O'Sullivan is going to have his usual coverage as well. I hope Stevens gets his own viewing too.

    Surprise winner? Stevens?

Stevens never does well in the Welsh Open and I think he'll have a very hard time against Hicks who always seem to perform when he gets to these stages.

well hopefully Stevens can change that this time round. Hicks could prove a tough proposition but i can see Stevens beating him.
