In the quarter finals 6 of the 7 highest ranked players were attending, and all eight players were from top 16. Has there ever been a stronger field (on the paper at least) for a quarter final ?

So now it's 4 out of top 5 in the semis.
Don't know the answer to your question, but all finals so semis as well this season included either Ding or Liang, so semis were composed of lower ranks in total so far than this time.Co-winner of Spike’s 2009 UK Championship number of centuries prediction contest.
