  • World Championship 2009 [provisional discussion]

I realise that we've still got the China Open to watch out for before the World Championship but I can't help but wonder the prospects of the World Championship this year! Certainly, last years World Championship final was a disappointment but this year it could be better. I hope for a random draw again - anyone know if that's still a possibility?

What do you want to see and what do you think will happen? I have a feeling that Ronnie is going to be knocked out first round and we may have a new Champion before us!

What make you think Ronnie may get knocked out first round?

Could use this thread for the qualifiers which start this week, can't wait for those.

The seeds have already been drawn but their opponents will be done via a random draw yeah.

Yes it is, the guy still pays his entry fee to keep having a go. He would need to win about 10 rounds to make it to the tv stage. I guess he knows theres not much chance of that.

He entered last year too, and if i remember correctly he won one round.

For sheer refusal to give up I say Good luck Tony Knowles.

I dont think even Jimmy will be saying he believes he can win it this year.

Liu Chuang looks to have a fairly kind draw. Maybe he can go all the way again? And this time it probably would be enough to keep his place.

The draw hes got, its not impossible, definately not easy either though - muldoon, hicks, mcleaod, mcculloch

Mculloch doesnt seem to be having the best of seasons; seems to be at least temporarily on his way down, making him one of the 'easiest' 17-32 players, Jimmys just beaten mcleod, not sure how his head to head is gainst Hicks in the qualifiers, i suspect they are playing to simillar levels. New guy Muldoon seems to be struugling judging by his ranking.

                            Ali Bassiri 1 - 5 Tony Knowles

How many rounds would the man have to win to be at the Crucible? Does anyone know?

With the clear GSC draws being unavailable at present thats not easy to answer.

I tried to work it out from this

                              http://www.worldsnooker.com/world_ch...at.htm?tid=121

With him having to win preliminary rounds to even prequalify for the qualifiers I think he requires 6 wins for a crucible place. He's on his way at least.
