  • Davis thrashing Hendry at the UK a few seasons ago I think has been one of the highlights of the decade.

I began to believe in Father Christmas again when I watched that- Don't back against Steve beating Neil Robertson

      • I think Robertson's a good tie for Davis to be honest. It could have been much worse - Ronnie, Maguire, Murphy, Higgins who I doubt he would have beaten. I reckon Robertson's the favourite for the match even though Davis has won most of their ties - just off the form he's produced this season - but the fact Davis has beaten him a few times means that Davis will fancy the job.

        • Besides Robertson's season has been pretty poor if we forget about the very special tournament in Bahrein.

He doesn't have the consistency he used to 2-3 years ago.

          • I'm not going to even entertain the notion we could be seeing other than Robertson vs. Carter match.
Robbo's potting is so good he doesn't need to bother with positional play like the rest of the players. He laughs in the face of those who spend hours on the practice table perfecting their cue ball control! ~ Forman

                • The odds just don't apply to Davis anymore. He doesn't win often enough for it to be worthwhile betting on him, but be it on your head if you bet against him!

                  • Absolutely- Davis has beaten Robertson this season, he'll be up for it. It is certainly not beyond the realms of possibilty. I don't think Neil willl be counting any chickens, he'll know he has a hard match to look forward to

                      • Maybe so- but you don't want to be hitting form now- it's a fine timing line. It is six weeks to Sheffield after all

                        • Steve Davis will push Robertson all the way make no mistake about that.

                          • I'm bumping this thread seeing as the China Open has now finished and also because this thread is the largest out of all of them in this particular forum. With Peter now being champion and his Top 16 place secure, there's a great deal of chance that he can win the World too! Of course, winning back to back tournaments is rare*, let along back to back ranking tournaments, his chances may be diminished because he might be worn out. However, he's hasn't got any pressure seeing as his elite place is pretty much sealed and so that won't be hanging on him at any rate. If anything, it'll spur him on.

Looking at the draw, I can only see an A-game Ronnie putting a stop to him in the Quarter-Finals if he plays the way he did against Hendry and Pettman. Similar story with Higgins but I think he's got a tougher draw where he could either face an A-standard Walden, Selby or Dott.

                            * I think Selby was the last to do it winning the Master Non-Ranking and then the Welsh Open Ranking event.

                            • At his age, you'd have to expect the inconsistency factor to be too big for it to happen.

                              • I think Ronnie was the last person to win back to back ranking tournaments - the World Championship and the Northern Ireland Trophy.
