  • Is Clive Back Commentating the Worlds?

Will he be commentating during the World Championships? I looked at the credits on the BBC website and they have him listed as well as Neal Foulds.

Neither Ken nor Dale are listed though.

Isn't he (Clive) supposed to be commentating up and till the quarter finals?

apparently, this is the last event he will commentate on before he gets the sack.

But I could be wrong, hopefully.

He will commentate yes but not as much as you may be used to him commentating in previous years.

Get some new blood in shall we!?!?
Great idea except that comparing anyone else who might replace Clive Everton with the great man himself is like comparing a lightbulb to the sun.

I'm afraid the genius who thought sacking Clive would be a smart move is only playing with 6 reds.

          Sad, Very.

I dunno Noel when Ted Lowe went we all thought it was a disaster. Granted Everton was around before that happened but as they say...the show must go on. Whether you like it/him or not Mr Everton is snooker history.

For God's sake let the man go out with dignity, with his boots on.
They should let him stay commenting up until he has a heart attack live on air.

I do hope he stays commentating. Even though I'm not an expert on 'snooker politics', thinking back I don't remember him doing anything particularly wrong. OK, World Snooker don't like Snooker Scene but he hasn't done anything bad, it's not fair on him. Ken and Dom. Dale are great people, great players and I don't have anything 'against' them at all but why do they deserve to take over Clive's commentary position? Clive's been in the comm. box for many years, I don't think it's time for him to put the microphone down just yet!

It's part of the dumbing down of television in general

Clive Everton has integrity and intelligence

Quite clearly, he had to go

I was actually glad when Ted Lowe went. Amiable as he was he was a bit amateur and repetetive ("packed house", "our great stars" etc), though he had his moments and given his years of service it was right for the BBC to keep him until he retired.

Everton, by comparison, is the consummate professional. None of the other commentators offer what he does. He always has something unique, interesting and relevant to say which is so refreshing as compared to the normal blather, chit chat and cliche (albeit often quite entertaining blather, chit chat and cliche) provided by the rest.

It's interesting to see that Everton's name is at the top of the list. The impression is that he's their top commentator. Could it be the BBC has had a change of heart?

This page on the BBC website has a different list of names with Clive well down the list:

Clive has been the World Champion of Commentors for longer than Joe Davis was Snooker Champ... and in his own way is in that statosphere of contribution to generations of snooker players and fans alike... WORLDWIDE!

How can you replace someone who says... "Ebdon's unforthcoming acceptance of the referee's replacement of the white has been called into question by his opponent despite the veracity of the location of the adjacent reds."

Or about his own upcoming sacking... ""I'm hurt and angry, because I find the reasons presented to me incomprehensible".

I think a Poll is in order...

"Shall we give Clive Everton... ?"

                        A: M.B.E.
                        B: Golden Handshake
                        C: The Bum's Rush
                        D: His job back

How do I start a Poll?
