  • Oh no just as Gerard was getting back into it....if Gerard loses this frame i dont know if will be able to recover from having the frame taken from under his nose.

    • What a mistake from Greene....it looks like will cost him the match....

      • Greene needs a big break or a quick frame to get it out of his mind. Carter got out of jail there after some pretty poor shots.

I guess you need a bit of that in competitive sport after all, but he seems to be diplaying that far more extremely than ive ever seen him do before. Maybe he believes he's going to win it this year and he's really pumping himself up.
Haven't noticed that with him (Carter) today so far.

          • I'd like to clarify my previous statement about Mark Allen which was made before the start of his WC match. I don't doubt that he is very good on his day and has a great potential. However he tends to be inconsistent and his performance both in Welsh Open and China have been very disapointing.
In this match against Martin Gould he's flying, but he isn't put under any sort of pressure. Until now he hasn't convinced me he's able to hold himself together when facing a determined experienced player who will do that to him. This is nothing to belittle him: he's very young and those things typically come with maturity and experience. I have no doubt he will acquire them if he hasn't yet. But in my opinion he's not quite there yet now.
Ronnie is beatable. He can be vulnerable mentally, especially if his opponent bullies or frustrates him (not always though! he is also very able to play under te strongests of pressure as he has proved many times). His game has weaknesses. But this is the WC and I expect him to be up for it, like he was in the Masters. Then, and in 2008 WC, he wasn't at his best in round 1 and raised to form progressively. There is no guarantee he will do that again of course, but he very well could.

            • Well, Greene had a lot of bad luck yesterday, but throughout he has had the chances. Carter has been there for the taking over this match and he hasn't capitalised. Shame.

              • Is no one watching selby vs ricky?
I think it could be the best match of round 1 by 'quality' & 'equality' of the players.
(hendry vs williams is also very good, but they are missing a little more balls)

If Carter wins this frame now he will probably run away with it.
That was the turning point, but in terms of luck, it was incredibly one sided. Carter was lucky to get through Rd 1 last year and same again this year although he has won 10-5, it should have been a lot closer. But, he improved in Rd 2 last year and will need to again this year.

Best match? I have to say it's a horrible match as i expected. I hate watching Mark Selby play, i know it's a bad thing to say, but i can't stand his style.

                    • Must agree with matoski it is little boring actually.
Looks similar to their last meeting at wembley.
                      Selby is slooow.
                      Walden is waaaalk.
                      I am waiting for Hendry.
                      Come on Stephen!

                        • This 9th frame doesn't promise an interesting frame either. Can't wait for Hendry-Williams to clear my head from this torture.

                            • Walden misses a red that even i wouldn't have missed. Like a few other's i'm looking forward to the Williams - Hendry match too.
