Dottie needed to win to otherwise he would have dropped out of the top 32. Not many players come back from that.

Only one has come returned to the top 16 after dropping out of the top 32 - the Outlaw.

Good track record here, and now he is into 3 sessions he has got to be beat and he is a handful for anyone.
My opinion is his track record is over rated - Before this year, in 10 visits to the crucible he had lost in the 1st round 6 times and 2nd round twice - so only got past the 2nd round twice in 10! Of course, those times he got to the final, but like Joe Johnson they are the exceptions.

I, as well as the other members of TSF, believe that there was nothing wrong with that reaction. That was just Graeme saying, "Yes! - I'm through"

fine by me to show his emotion - i am reliably told he is a nice guy and still turns up and plays pool for his local pub team.

I don't know whether this has been discussed already, but I watched the closing stages of Graeme Dott against Barry Hawkins on Sunday night. I have never been a Dott fan, but I thought his reaction when he won was appalling. The looks on his face as he punched the air and gestured to the audience were not smiles of delight that he'd won. It seemed more as if he actually wanted to punch someone - he looked angry and arrogant. I just wondered, are there people on this forum who actually like Dott? Did anyone else think that his reaction upon winning was disrepectful to his opponent and actually made you dislike him more? I just wondered what people's thoughts were and whether I'm in a minority in my view...
He wasn't gesturing the audience he was gesturing his supporters in the balcony.

I never appreciated the way he talked about other players. A lot of bad sportmanship characterises him. So I believe all that gesturing is to be seen in that context.
I saw that going differently in my mind

He won a few tournaments and has been in other finals. How many players can say they have been champion of the world?

He does not get the kind of appreciation that other winners have got and that is a shame but I think he does not need anyone's approval just his own.
He is a proven winner and a determined player and to come back after his personal problems and injury is quite something. I respect that so good luck to him.

Dott plays with his heart on his sleeve. He'd just won a game which many people thought he would lose and played some good stuff into the bargain. I actually like this kind of reaction from a player as opposed to just strolling over and shaking hands as if he's playing his mate in a club. I'm not a particular fan of wee Dott, but I'm glad to see him finding a bit of form again. As 1lawyer says, he never got the credit or respect he deserved for winning the world title and his achievement was almost forgotten as many people were too obsessed with trying to figure out how and why Ronnie had lost. So it's good to see him bouncing back.

I agree with both 1lawyer and Kingscratcher and I can't help wondering how many of these comments would be made if Dott was a 6ft big guy with a dark brown voice.

Not to mention there are constantly complains on forums about "lack of characters" and when we have players showing their emotions or speaking their mind they immediately get critics for being disrespectful or controversial. Could you please explain his 'bad sportsmanship' a bit? And what has he said about other players?

Did I say it would? But I'd rather hear him and others grumble, moan, brag, cry or laugh ... whatever ... than the asceptic blah-blah we are served most of the time. I think all this fuss about "being disrespectfull" etc ... is a bit stupid especially when it's about interviews done minutes after a win or a defeat. The guys are only human and sometimes emotions are in the driving seat. Big deal really! Never happens to us?

The way he reacted after his first round exit against McCullogh the year after he became worldchamp was an example of bad sportmanship. He has the right to be unhappy but he was very, very little in defeat then.
