  • If Wenbo doesn´t win the next few matches, he´ll be out of top 16 before he even got any advantage of beeing inside.

    • Indeed, I already make it that he is down to 21st following today's results.

According to the new ranking points system with the additional starter points for the newcomers, I have now updated my provisional rankings page to the following.

Much better for the likes of Tony Drago and Alfie Burden at first glance.

Jimmy White loses out big time he is at 73 now

and Anthony McGill being 64th shows how well this new system works for New Pros and i think the balance has improved things.

        • Will the draw for the UK qualifiers be done for these updated ranking lists then (after the Shanghai masters and World Open)?

For example, if Jimmy White doesn't improve will he have to play another qualifying match (i.e. come in at the last 96 stage instead of last 80 stage because he will fall outside the top 64)?

Starter points have been around for as long as i can remember, this is not a new thing. As the ranking system is based on 2 seasons, it would not be fair to expect a newly qualified player to try and remain on the tour with just one seasons points so they all start on the same points as last seasons lowest points scorer (that remained on the tour).

I think also for a couple of season newly promoted players got double ranking points for their first season to combat the 2 season ranking points system... but dont quote me on that.

In a nutshell, it would be near on impossible to stay on the tour without starting points.. well you might get 1 or 2 people but that would be it.

Actually, start points are actually done in the fairest way possible. The highest one-year points (that aren't in top 64) are given to the new entrants, so there is no human element to decide it. As the amount of ranking points available (as in this year) increases, so will the starter points. I reckon 7,000 points will be given next year.

As for the ranking list, I have finally worked out the new table! Why can't there just be a list with rounded numbers, with say 100 additional points for getting past each round, rather than say 455 points for certain progress.

However, this points system is far fairer than say a money list is. It is a better reflection of form.

That is correct. The list following the second EPTC event in October will be used to determine the draws for the UK Championship and the Masters of the major events.

                    • If the rankings are based on 2 years then surely new entries to the tour should be given 2 years to accumulate points? and perhaps no half points at any stage for losing your 1st match. Also why not allow all players in EPTC & PTC events to gather points along with those successful wildcards (Eg CHINA OPEN &WORLD OPEN). Thus creating rankings past 96 and therefore always being able to provide full fields in ranking events.

Can't wait for this tournament, just a quick question will BBC be showing live snooker on all 9 days and having coverage of table 1 for all sessions?

I think it's the eighth highest one-year points (that aren't in top 64).

there is only 1 table and it will be on the BBC and the Red Button and also on Eurosport.

correct, just thinking though, this will surely have to change because it is not top 8 on 1 year list (outside top 64) that qualify anymore, it is top 8 on PTC money list ouitside top 64 that qualify so that will complicate it as that is a money list not ranking point list

it is easy enough done get the 8 players via the PTC AND work out how many ranking points they won during the season and whoever made the least then that is what new pros gets.
