Got to say the crowd today has been pitiful despite the names entering at this stage. Even more so when they're a tenner a ticket. The arena only has like 500 seats doesn't it?
What can you say... horrible so far. No atmosphere at all (ban tournaments in Scotland please) and players are too afraid so they're all playing negative as race to 3 doesn't allow you a slow start. I'm barely entertained so far.
I've been barely in snooker mode so far.
I mean, I showed even more of an interest towards the non-televised PTC events..
Pathetic crowd helped build none of the athmosphere we used to see in other tournaments, may be this is the reason for my boredom.
All the way Mark J!!

The BBC commentators are fine in most ways but Virgo in particular has been frustrating today because as usual they talk about the event marking the start of the season and as if tournaments that aren't on the BBC don't exist. Not unsurprising I guess but annoying all the same. Clive Everton is the exception to that of course.
Yeah I hate that too! Today Virgo said "the season is only 5 mins old". Not exactly helping the spreak of snooker are they!
Whew, horrible croud.
Are they all asleep already? Ok, Harold-Murphy isn't the most thrilling of matches, but still... It seems you only hear the obligatory clap after frame ball and maybe once or twice for a great pot or safety...
Looks like I'll have to try to spice this event up a little with the Fantasy Game stats.

While I agree that this match was not one of those "really looking forward to" matchups, Harold showed fine break building and the last two frames were fluent.
Problem is not just about the matchups, I suppose.

A few good matches today already I think, Maguires usual fist-on-the-table sounded like a proper hard one tonight as he almost lost that match.
Ebdon placed some crazy shots as normal, i think there was a cross table double which was the best but he played well and didn't want seem to want to leave at the end.
And to top it off Shaun lost , he was on my bets to win but never mind.
Some nice line ups tomorrow, in fact all 5 matches could be good I hope Mark Williams keeps up his form from the premier league the other day.
can somebody explain how does the 805 1610 points system in the World Open work ?
According to Matt2745, Graeme Dott gets 805 whereas he has lost to Neil Robertson ?

Yes I can I think. The players starting out in Round of Last 64 - eg Dott and Robertson are on "seeded loser" points if they lose the match - that figure is 805.
If they win and move into Last 32 then they move onto 1960 points.
However, if a player has won a match to reach the Last 64 stage then they're already on 1610 points, should they then lost the Last 64 match - eg Igor, Gunnell, Haneveer etc. They'd all won a Last 128 round match to reach Last 64
Hope that explains it. It's never easy explaining the ranking system!!

Just caught up with today's action, enjoyed the start to the BBC1 show today. Good to see they didn't jump straight into the action and spoke about what's ahppened in snooker over the summer for infrequent viewers. So far it is hard to say whether this format is good or bad, however with the shorter format there is a higher tension which can make for great snooker.
Also a shame the BBC didn't show the rest of Carter's match and the Maguire game on the red button, and didn't even put it on the iPlayer
