  • So sad to see Ken Doherty out.

While I have never played snooker, I'm a girl and it wasn't really the sort of thing girls did round my bit. I have always enjoyed watching it on TV. Over the years I have developed a real soft spot for Ken Doherty and it would be safe to say he is not only my favorite snooker player but also my favorite sportsman. He may not be a brilliant natural player and he has had some hard times recently but his dedication and enthusiasm for the sport as well as his impeccable sportsmanship have always made him stand out from the crowd.
Luckily even when he is not playing we get to see him in action as both a pundit and a commentator.
He may not be an O'Sullivan or a Hendry but he has been brilliant for snooker and I would love to see him come back to even better form and win big again, so I was sorry to see him go out today. He still has plenty left to give snooker both on and off the table so I just thought I'd send out a little love for the the Darling of Dublin!

He's pretty cute to if you ask me

I like to see Ken do well. Although his laugh is irritating.

I always thought Ken Doherty at his best is no worse than John Higgins, even though John has achieved so much more.

It's fairly obvious he doesn't practice much anymore so don't expect anything from him.

I think he's just got a lot of love for the game so it's kinda hard to realise that he's not good enough anymore to compete for Ranking Titles.

Still is fun to see him play and he may be able to surprise us once in a while which is really good I guess.

I take it he doesn't have too many fans then? Well I still like him but I accept that he probably is more interested in other things now like his commentry and being a dad etc Still glad he still plays!

I think he is quite popular. Probably fairer to say that hardly anyone dislikes him.

Thats good to know I was always under the impression that he was well liked amongst his fellow players but I wasn't sure what other fans made of him.

I've always been a big Ken fan, probably the nicest player I've ever met.

Ken is a true gent and a great ambassador for our sport. Last time I met Ken was at the stage door of the Crucible after his 2003 World Final defeat. What impressed me about him was, that he made sure that every fan that was waiting for an autograph got one, and was more than happy to pose for photos etc. You could quite understand after narrowly losing in such a close final, if he just signed a few autographs and left. But no he made sure everyone went home happy..

I was the one waiting outside Stage Door at about midnight after he had just lost a key frame against Stevens at the Crucible wearing my Doherty t-shirt and he still stood for a photo with me. Must have been pretty fed up at the time.
