It's early, yes.
But it'll also be, just a single day before the WC starts
Looking at what he's gone through all season, John Higgins might be exhausted to make a deep run in the long format. But for me, he's been the most consistent force in the game in recent years and has done quite well this season, considering the issues he had had.
Judging by his unreal confidence in his own game, Mark Williams looks very much like the most serious contender, at the moment.
Never count out Ronnie O'Sullivan, though. He hasn't been playing good snooker, but only God knows whether he will be at an untouchable level during the World Championship or not.
Mark Selby also could have something to say this season. He looks to be better than he's been for a while. Still, it's questionable whether he has what it takes to beat likes of Higgins and Williams at the biggest stage.
It's still looking early for Ding, and Robertson is affected by his child's birth, which isn't very surprising. Also, defending a title is always the toughest thing to ask for.
If I'm to add two outsiders as a contender, next to Selby ( with Higgins, Williams and O'Sullivan, not surprisingly being my favourites to clinch the title ), I'll go for Stephen Maguire and Shaun Murphy.
Both of them didn't do wonders this season and Maguire hasn't showed anything to convince me that he's anywhere near being a contender. But I don't think you have to have a great pre-Crucible performance to build upon to win the World Championship.
