  • Selby has nothing to be proud of, he din't play on because he thought he had a great chance of getting four snookers, the balls weren't pefectly placed at first, wouldn't mind if he earned the four snookers through great play, but he didn't, there were some good snookers but ultimatley he won by gamesmanship what next? Play on when you need ten snookers? It's such a shame after making six centuries that you need to keep going until your opponent concedes enough points through bad running.

What makes it all the more jarring is that in the preceding frame, after missing a red, Selby he left Hendry snookered behind the brown, after Hendry's escape I thought Selby had a real chance to show some class, I felt his condesending smirk and tap on Hendry's back was unsporting. I know Hendry has on many occasion benefited from the run of the ball but he has also turned down opportunities he felt he didnt earn, he has always called fouls on himself, even when he knew it could lose him a match.

    A thoroughly classless display.

Me too. Safe to say though Hendry was not amused..

Yes, he did. That is precisely why he played on - because the balls were situated well for snookers.

It's got nothing to do with "class"; he's trying to win a competitive, serious match.

Imagine Hendry gets out 5-11 down, has a resurgence of form and wins 13-12.

Like it or not, Selby did what he had to do to win. Hendry, of all people, should respect that.

I agree...Selby wanted that frame and the reaction after the hand shake is a proof...the cleched fist and big smile showed how much Mark wanted that frame and how happy he was after he got it.

            • Selby let himself down by being ungracious, by celebrating a final frame decided by a fluked ball.

He has nothing to be proud of because he played so well to make six centuries, Hendry would definatley appreciate that. But he should have had the good grace to acknowledge what happened, that's all, Hendry would have.

                • I think Selby is going to have a big come down after that match, he will go into the next one thinking he's unbeatable then will find out that the game isn’t so easy when someone puts you under pressure not like Hendry did. As for not conceding, if every one carried on needing 3 or more snooker it would be another nail in the snooker coffin. Ok he got them but Hendry just couldn’t be bother some of the escapes were very poor much like the whole match from Hendry and lets not forget Selby stuck the red up for Hendry and Hendry missed so once again the frame was lost rather than won

                    • Don't forget Selby had no problem making a comment to O Sullivan in the Masters a few years ago when O Sullivan took full advantage of Selby's misfortune and not acknowledging it.

Many people are watching this Hendry-Selby, perhaps the last Hendry appearance at the Crucible.

Sorry to say, but Selby was "too much".
He played great snooker but in the last frame, he showed no class at all.
                        I was very disappointed

                        • If Hendry manages to stay in the 16, he should not retire.

He's playing against the best in the world, someone who's knocked in 6 tons, and with a little more luck it could have been much closer.

                          • I don't think that Selby was wrong to take advantage of Hendry's bad luck but I think making six centuries and taking a 11-5 lead into a final session is reason enough to celebrate. Selby was then being praised for 'never giving in' but that wasn't the case, it's an achievent worth celebrating when someone snatches victory from the jaws of defeat, when a player wins from an near possible position through grit determination and the will to win, that's something to celebrate.

But I reiterate: imagine if Selby had conceeded that frame and Hendry went on to win 13-12.

At this level, you can't go giving away frames. You can question the morality of carrying on the frame, but the snookers were there to be got; and Selby got them.

And the end of the day, Hendry was 48 up with one red left. He can't blame anyone but himself (and, perhaps, "the Gods")
