The best Ronnie can do is move up one place to 9th.

If he won he would be on 44960 points, less than Maguire already has.

There's a large gap between the top 8 and the bottom 8 of the 16.

If Bingham loses against Ding, and Lee loses tonight... Hendry will survive in the top 16 assuming Gould doesn't make the Semi finals (at least) or Hawkins the final (at least).

The Top 8 are almost certainly secure. Only Greame Dott can break into the top 8, and he would need to win the event.

              what initially caused the gap?
selby and ding didnt win a major ranking event.
williams and higgins, those 2 did.
robertson only won the world open
carter reached the final of shanghai masters right

i think ....... thats about it. (I THINK) please correct me if im wrong

I don't usually follow all this points stuff, but if Ronnie did win and get the 10,000 points, add this to what you said he already had, ie 10) Ronnie O'Sullivan -970 (38760)
Then surely he would have 48,760 ????

No, because he's already won 3800 points of a possible 10,000 by getting to the second round. He can only win another 6200 points if he wins the event, which would put him on 44960

The list has been updated to include all 1st round results.

This is how the list stands right now in the 2nd round.

                        Just to avoid confusion...

ALL players left in the draw have already won (at least) 3800 ranking points. They are in the bag, secure.

                        2nd round losers - 3800
                        Quarter losers - 5000
                        Semi losers - 6400
                        Runner up - 8000
                        Winner - 10000

                        Hope this helps

I will try and update the list after every result.

Lee losing tonight is obviously good news for Stephen Hendry. All he needs now is Ding to beat Bingham and Gould to not reach the semis.

Selbys been into several semifinals and 2 finals over the last two years. And he won a ptc.
Dings has also done well plus he won two titles last season and one ptc this year.
Robertson has lots of points and has won three titles over the last two season.
Carter won Shanghain and got to the semifinal at the cruicible last year.

Note: If Williams beats Cope, it's not possible for Higgins to get the Number 1.
