I think before the match both players would have taken 8-8 after sixteen frames.

Huh, that never looked like going 8-8, Higgins will be delighted. But he didn't really get back into the match with superb play, it was more O'Sullivan making unnecessary mistakes.
O'Sullivan looked the better of the two for most of the session, so I wouldn't put it past him to play a strong session tonight. Having said that, when the pressure is really on, it's tough to bet against Higgins, especially considering how some of their recent meetings went.
The match between Selby and Ding could still be quite interesting as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of long frames, with the balls going awkward.

I agree. For most of the session, it was Higgins, who cracked under pressure and only recovered to draw level with the aid of Ronnie's errors..All the way Mark J!!
