The reputation of the players looks impressive, but if you consider what they meant in that point in time, I wouldn't say it was a particularly tough run.

Lee was tough for the 1st round, one of the better qualifiers he could have drawn. In the 2nd round Higgins avoided the seeded player, playing a complete outsider instead. O'Sullivan in the QF was tough as well, but once again he was not one of the top seeds, and he came to the tournament with a run of poor results behind him.

Williams was the toughest opponent obviously. He was the highest possible seed, and the player playing the best snooker of the season, apart from Higgins himself.

As for the final, another qualifier, although I'm sure no one will look at it that way in the future if Trump goes on to have a brilliant career.

      • Love him or hate him Higgins is the best all round player in the game as he proved time after time during the Championships when he was playing nowhere near his best. O'Sullivan, Williams and Trump will all be disappointed they didn't beat him because they had their chances but Higgins never gives up and his safety play will always give him a chance by keeping his opponents under constant pressure.

I have to say I agree with those criticising Hazel Irvine, she's only really happy when her fellow scots are playing well.

Dunno if this was a joke, but I can't see it at all. If anything she's always seemed to me to have a thing for Ronnie, and she couldn't have been any further on the Trump bandwagon.

Hard to believe that Trump isn´t going to get a great career, but he has only had a period of two months playing really well, so that´s a very relevant comment.

Both players were missing a couple of balls in their previous matches, but they both played well when it really mattered. I don't think John Higgins is quite at his best when it comes to potting and scoring, so Trump might look more dangerous in the balls, just like Williams did yesterday. On the other hand, I would fancy Higgins to win most of the scrappy frames, so Trump will need to keep the game open.

I think the first three sessions might be fairly close, and if they are, I think Higgins' experience and ability to keep his opponents away from the table will give him a slight edge at the business end. That's why I predicted Higgins to win 18-15.

In any case, it should be fun. Let the best man win.
                  Nice call, sir : )

And I know that I would be in a bad mood for that I didn't watch this. Hey, at least I saw the final moments of frame 33! And that double on pink!
