  • Maestro, the cliche you use which the commentaters also drive me mad with "great SINGLE BALL potter" .
Can you tell me what other sort of potter there is?
If as I suspect it is ment to convey the style of a player then why not say so.

    • First well done to both players Higgins won the trophy by, well he is quite amazing. With the year he had (and having to play Rory) i thought this guy is bound to collapse.
But he played a canny last frame dont know how the commentators did not see it coming but JV nearly had a turn.
It was touching to see a family start to heal. A bit soppy i know but well done and wont say good luck to him as he has enough of that but .....
And as for Judd he made it easier with his attitude it just felt like there was no loser.

I have been having a hard time with Higgins this year as i find it hard to believe he was guilty and hard not to believe. Only to read the paper this morning to find that Hearn was told last sept that the match fixing charge would not be enforceable because the event being discussed in the Ukraine was not one that WS had jurisdiction over.

      • I wonder if mr mooney new that already when invited to the ukraine.
You can not blame the NOTW,they obviously only acted on tip offs to them.
How the hell has snooker been dragged into this mess, through 2 peoples GREED.
Oh and by the way IM HALF SCOTTISH,and many scots people i know are ashamed as well as me.

Being Scottish is not the point. It really is awful that people have to say i am Scottish so bla bla. Anyone who defends him simply because the are Scottish are complete plebs.

          • I didn't watch all Higgins' matches in this WC but it seemed to me that he was waiting for the opponent to make a mistake. When his opponent (Ronnie, Williams, Trump) was potting balls he was well behind until they started losing it. Of course this is a big part of the game, to punish your opponent but I am not enjoying watching that.
Is there any statistics about how many of the frames he won started with him potting the first red and in how many the balls were already developed?
            Come on Jimmy!!!!

I'll defend him and look at my flag.

Anyone who wins as much as he has this year is aquitted. You can't fake being a Champion, especially of the world.

I let it go actually and almost forgot it happened so all you who cannot, prefer holding on to this kind of grief.

Its all this raking over old ground that reminded me.

All I want to look forward to is more great Snooker from whoever and whatever they did yesterday I don't care about.

Seems many want to look forward to yesterday.

              • Some good news: the final averaged 3.9 million viewers in the UK, peaking at 6.4m as the match finished. As a comparison, last year's final averaged 2.55 million and peaked at 3.6, less than this year's average.

Was wondering what the viewing figures were like too...

                  Thanks for that...

I think this phrase is fair description of some players ie. Mark Williams and more recently Judd Trump. It's so coined as its not a comment on their all round break buidling ability or even postional play just their ability to approach the table, see an unlikely/difficult/long/thin pot and slot it in, usually as apposed to playing safe as the pot was the easies option and gains them control of a situation, giving them the upper hand, usually in safety battle, usually resulting in a break of 1.

Make sense? Someone on the forum will understand I'm sure.

                      • Trump had won ten frames on the first day. I believe the only times where someone has lost the final having got to ten before the overnight break involve either White or Stevens. As we know those two players have eight world finals between them and no win. I hope this isn't a trend.

I don't think so this time. Trump is better than the two of them and can only improve.
Also he won't have someone like Hendry at his peak to contend with.

The next few years should be good for snooker with Ding improving, Brecel coming along as well and a determined Higgins to compete with and not forgetting Trump and Williams.
                            Exciting times ahead.

You're forgetting a generation there.. Robertson, Murphy, Selby.... Carter to some extent.

                              • That pink Judd missed though did remind me of when Jimmy White missed the black in 1994. Actually I think the worst miss I can remember in the closing frames of a final was Ebdon in 2002 when I believe he just needed a very easy black and another red to win 18 - 16 but missed the black. People tend to forget that one as Ebdon still won the championship but if Hendry had taken his chances in the deciding frame I'm sure that miss would have been up their with White's black in 1994 and possibly Judd's missed pink.
