Just looking through the draw now - plenty of talking points !

In the pre-quals there is NO Tony Knowles this year, but there is a David Taylor !! Is that The Silver Fox or a different person ?

Also Jimmy has a draw of death - He will face Doherty and Swail, should he beat Wallace or Boyle ! Sorry to say but theres little chance he'll make it through that section.

Drago seems to be in with a shout with his draw, especially taking his recent form into account, it wouldnt be impossible for him to qualify - Guodong, Song, Mcculoch and Hawkins.

extremely good draw for Drago......Mcculloch struggling so Hawkins could be the stumbling block.

Yes and considering Drago has recently beaten Lee and Greene at the last 32 stage, Hawkins is around the same level as them, so he can do it, if he plays well.

Yet again somebody sneaks through the net...

Colin Mitchell has played in EASB events this year, meaning he is a member of the EASB (national governing body for AMATEUR snooker in England).

Yet there he is in the first qualifying round of the World Championships, meaning he has WPBSA membership.

You cannot be a member of both your NGB and WPBSA. How has he been allowed to enter? How is this fair on the rest of the amateur players who play in their NGB's tournaments and as a result cannot play in the Worlds?

It's a stupid rule which I think will be gotten rid of next year, but for this year the rules must apply.

                Any ideas anyone?

Good spot Matt! In recent season's it's usually been Barry Stark but he's not in the draw this year.
Colin also played a couple of years ago because I remember photographing his match, but also I photographed him in Thailand representing England (EASB) in the Masters event
Maybe it's called having your cake and... !

This happens every year I can recall. Perhaps the new Board will revert to open qualifyers like it was a few years ago - you pay your money and take your chance!
Good to hear from you Janie - hope you are well!

Hi Val. Thanks I'm good and hope you are.
It's so sad when all these lads grow up (I use the term loosely!) cos I don't get to see their parents so often.

yes and some of them could be very long matches, pull up a chair and a comfy cushion!

Val, let's hope they see sense and let everyone back into the Worlds again. I for one have never played in it, but would love to do so at some stage without having to resign my EASB membership. They're missing out on a load of extra prize money by not allowing amateurs to play - I can't see that getting past Barry for too long!!
