Alan McManus goes 4-2 up with a century. Meanwhile, Steve Davis has had 8 reds and 8 blacks - He's only made one max in his career - long way to go though!

He opted for a pink, and broke down before the ton, but still good to see the nugget having one visit snooker - a rarity these days and he moves 4-1 - couple more frames and he'll a good lead guaranteed.

Fergal's got a poor record agains McManus.. Hopefully he can win this time. It would be nice to see him at the Crucible.

I was surprised to see that McManus is 7-0 up on him. It looks like Fergal is fighting back in this one now. A huge amount of McManus's matches seem to go to the final frame decider for some reason - this might well be another.

Davis going very well now; 5-1 up.

Didn't realise that McManus was 7-0 up on Fergal, though I still fancy Fergal to win today really.

Looks like O'Brien and McManus are going to be first to complete their nine frame session, beating the other four matches by quite a stretch. Anyone know what it going on? These guys are not known for their haste afterall.

p.s. when did McManus last appear at the Crucible?

Alan McManus last appeareat the Cruciable in 2006 and got beat by Marco Fu 10-3 in the 1st rd, and he also played Fergal in 1994, beating him 10-7 this was Fergal's first cruciable apperance, and Fergal won the 1st frame of the match with a 100 break, the only player to make a 100 in the very first frame he played at the Cruciable on his debut to this day.

I think McManus and O'Brien were not exactly quick, just that all the matches today don't feature any really quick players (like Michie, Milkins, Drago etc). Wenbo isn't slow, but Lawler is slower than most, Marcus Campbell isn't exactly fast and Harold is in the Guinness book of records for slowest frame and generally a snail would be faster. Davis and Gunnell are also not exactly faster than a speeding bullet , but Steve Davis won't be complaining about grinding it out as he moves into a 6-1 lead

Wow 6-1 to Davis. Am pleasently shocked as I'd expected today to be a major struggle for him. Wish even more that I'd booked tickets for this match now.
