  • Can Ken-do it this year?

After his recent return to form, can Ken Doherty be considered a serious contender for this year's World Championship? His qualifying was impressive, beating Jimmy White 10-3 and hammering Joe Swail (a ranking finalist last season) 10-1. In his opening match, he faces Mark Selby, who he beat in Shanghai at the beginning of the season. Can the 40 year old add a second World Championship to the one he won in 1997?

I'd absolutely love to see it but I'm not convinced that he has the long-game/break-building game to beat the best at the moment.

Tactical game is as strong as ever though so I wouldn't rule out an upset against Selby.

Tough opponent for the starters... I'd like to see him beat Selby, though. You never know as I think Ken has been practicing like a demon (if I may quote Clive Everton) but so has Selby. But Ken is a class player so I don't expect him to go away easily.

I really like Ken but and would like to see him do really well but i just think selby will suffocate him . Imo Ken is one of the nicest players on the circuit . I like Selbs aswell , good character .

Ken will have his chances against Selby. I don't know if it will be enough or not, but don't expect him to make things easy for Selby..

If he somehow reaches the second round, it will be very nice to watch him against Hendry. That match would be wide open, as well, depending on both Ken and Hendry's level of consistency. You know, these days it's vintage Hendry one frame, completely out of shape in the next

I'm going for a quarter-final exit for Ken, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he progresses further. The last thing a player should do is to underestimate such a great champion
