I won't be surprised if Stuart Pettman and Tom Ford reach the quarter final this year.

Ding will be far too strong for Pettman , both him and Robbo are in with a good shout

Of all the first round matches, these are the only matches I think could see a qualifier get through.

        Marco Fu v Martin Gould
Gould had a good season last year, but not seen much of him this season. I think Fu will have enough here, but Gould can play and it's a potential banana skin for Fu.

        Ali Carter v Jamie Cope
Cope could beat Carter, although Carter showed some form in the last two tournaments. This should be a good one.

        Joe Perry v Michael Holt
I like Michael Holt, nice bloke. I think he has a chance against Joe Perry, who has had a very poor season. I think Joe needs a good run at Sheffield to keep his top 16 place so will be under pressure. I think Michael can capitalise on this.

        Peter Ebdon v Graeme Dott
This could be a close one, and a long one, as the final was between them a few years back. Tough to call.

        Ryan Day v Mark Davis
Ryan should win this, but he's playing poorly at the moment.

        Ronnie O’Sullivan v Liang Wenbo
I think Ronnie will win, as Wenbo is not in the form he was earlier in the season, but if Ronnie turns up with the wrong attitude, Liang could spring a surprise.
        Cheers
        Steve

Dott outright would have been better...

Although i didnt fancy him to win it , i fancied him to have a good run . When his tail is up snooker does,nt come much better and he seems to have more self belief than some other very good capable players , i think thats a big difference and advantage .

Someone posted odds for qualifiers to go the furthest but i thought it was to win first round so didnt take much notice at his odds .

There are places betting exchanges where you can back and later lay, odds go down if player performs good.
But of course you can never predict too well how will the player do, or how will odds behave...

With Dott I wasn't sure if he will deal with Ebdon, Ebdon seemed to be in alright form in China and such a responsible guy generally And Dott, he wasn't too noticeable this season, except that Higgins mentioned that he's playign like top16 player and better than some after he defeated him at some point this season. After R1 any of the 2 (Dott or Ebdon) could have potentially reached some higher stages.

Dott has done incredibly well to get as far as he has done. I think the two weeks none stop (apart from a few days) is starting to catch up with him now though and Robertson looks as fresh as a daisy.

Before the tournament started my ex girlfriend looked at the draw sheet and, being a Dott fan, said "I think Graeme might actually make it to at least rthe semi finals this year". I laughed for about 5 minutes and said "If he makes it to the semi finals I will give you 150 pounds. Hell, if he beats the first two opponents I'll give you 75."

                        Bloody Peter Ebdon.

I bet on Dott and Steve Davis as part of an accumulator, those were my picks to get through the first round. If Day hadn't lost 10-8 and Fu won his decider against Gould, I'd have won £3000.
