One musn't forget the spirit of the champion who once relished the idea of "putting his opponents' brains in a pickle jar" or something to that effect. Steve Davis, when his back is up, can apparently still summon up the powers of days bygone. If he could somehow get back into that kind of mindset, he should not be written off.

One final thought is that Steve is playing without any pressure whatsoever. He's not expected to beat the defending champion, so he should be playing loose. Now, as was evidenced in the final frame of the first round, if Steve were to get close to actually winning this match, he must steel his nerve or else he could just fall apart.
