Amazing I hadn´t in my wildest dreams expected Steve to be 6 - 2 up after first session. If this should be his last visit at the cruicible, he sure has put his fingerprints on this tournament.
I still expect a fightback from John though.

6-2! Who would have predicted that? Great stuff from Steve, but a very disappointing performance from John. The special situation (playing the nugget in the crucible) seemed to put him off completely. I wonder if this will stay so tomorrow. I'm looking forward to part II
This scoreline promises great two remaining sessions of this match. No doubt that John will come out tomorrow all guns blazing. Remember Welsh Open 2010 Final. That was the best snooker I've ever seen. I'm sure he'll produce something like that tomorrow.
Go John!!!
What a superb performance from Steve! He never let John get going which is why whenever he had a chance, he missed! Steve kept him out of the game for ages. Superb stuff. Can't wait for the next 2 sessions!

what a brilliant performance from Steve. Such an entertaining session of snooker. Haven't seen him play like that since he almost won the UK. John was all over the place but regardless of how indifferently he was playing, Steve was potting so many balls. I've got so used to not watching Steve's matches as he was grinding out defeats that it was a great surprise to see him knocking them in left right and centre. tremendous. Go Steve! (from a converted fan)
Very disappointing session as far as I am concerned. John was all over the place, could find any form of consistency, missed easy balls...Not a great start for sure....He'll need a VERY strong start of the 2nd session to balance the cr*p he produced tonight.
That being said, kudos to Steve who played superbly well. It was Vintage Steve Davis. A very well deserved lead for him to be honest...

What a match. To be honest I was expecting that Higgins is going to crush Steve. But Steve is playing amazing snooker. And it was so nice when he made century, you could just feel the tension as he was getting closer to 100 Hope he will still be in the lead after tomorrow's session
You cannot improve your game if you don't have a cue and snooker table
BTW vucko means wolfie
Yes, this was by far the most enjoyable session of snooker in the entire Championship so far. I think if Davis kept this standard up for the remainder of the tournament, he could be winning the title.
He completely dominated in setting the pace and style of the match. Higgins didn't really have any scoring opportunities with an open table and all the high colours available. There was a lot of safety played in every frame, and while that in itself was pretty even, it took Higgins' scoring edge over Davis out of the equation. Davis reminded me of Mark Selby tonight, by easily getting into a break-building mode after long periods of safety play, and vice versa. He never missed an easy ball all night, and only missed one slightly tricky shot with the rest. Definitely the best he's played since at least 2005.
But realistically, John Higgins still remains the favourite. He now knows that Davis is up for it, so there is little chance of going through with a mediocre performance. He is well capable of winning three or four frames in a row in one visit, and I expect him to play a good session tomorrow. Davis has brilliantly kept him from getting into a scoring rhythm by forcing the long safety exchanges, and that's what he must do for the rest of the match as well.

Couldn't agree more just brilliant to watch, hope tomorrow is the same and i hope steve gets a well deserved win not that i don't like higgins just think steve is due a cracker of a win.
Well this scoreline has certainly surprised me although I do suspect that John will more than likely make it 8-8 tomorrow with an incredible finale to follow, to be fair even if it gets to 8-8 that's still a great result for Davis who will then look at it as a best of 9 match. Higgins didn't turn up but Davis took his chances that's the difference tonight, if he can keep him off the table like he has done then he may have a chance. Don't forget, Davis could have lost a couple of those frames tonight through sheer poor safety especially the final frame but John couldn't pot, it will be a different John tomorrow I can't believe he will be that poor again. Davis will carry on playing the same as he's done so that means it will be Higgins dictating the outcome.
higgins played like **** tonight.really dissapointing.
davis won't play like that until he's 85.he'll lose the next match pretty bad.and that match it's gonna be the next season
