As bad as I thought he was against King, Davis was magnificent tonight. Calmness personified, he just kept a tight rein on Higgins (though Higgins did throw away one frame. I said the minimum Davis would be happy with after the first 4 frames was 5-3 and he got even better 6-2.

Next step, no worse than 3-5 in the next session. If he can go into the final session leading, be it 9-7, 10-6 or 11-5, the cat is well and truly amongst the pigeons.

I really hope he can keep it going now and make this a truly great and memorable 2nd Round game.

Whatever happens in the remaining of the tournament, this session is going to be my favourite moment of this year's World Championship. Superb stuff from Steve Davis!!

Hats off to The Nugget! Can't wait for the second session

Higgins will pick up his form but if Steve continues to win the tactical play and keeps his unforced errors to a minimum, he may frustrate John enough to squeeze out enough frames to make it close.

As a Higgins fan, I have found his form a bit worrying so far. Hopefully he will pick it up like he did against Cope and Selby in their best of 25s last year. 6-2 isn't the most appealing position to start a session from though.

Steve Davis is a Legend. If he can win a few frames in the next session, he stands a great chance in the final session, providing he can play like he did last night.

If anyone knows how to beat the big boys, it's Steve Davis.

                    COME ON STEVE!

                    • What a session. I really enjoyed watching it last night. Higging obviously didn't perform his best. You could see the "Steve Davis is whooping me!" Confused look on his face.

I think the second session will provide some excellent and tense snooker and we will see the scores even up somewhat in my opinion. This years championship just keeps getting better

                      • Is there any chance for Steve to get back into the top 16 after this wc His pot success was outstanding.

                        • If Steve can win 2 out of the first 3 this afternoon he'll be going into the final session at worst level with John Higgins. After that he just has to look to pinch one or two with a lot less pressure on him. Could be an interesting session

There is a theoretical chance. He would need to win the tournament, or at least reach the final, depending on the results of Dott, Perry and Mark Davis.

I would seriously doubt if he would be interested in getting a place in Top 16, after reaching the final

As stated it is extremely unlikely. However, what a win tomorrow would do is give him renewed confidence and motivation to keep going next year, maybe practice more and who knows sneak back into the Top 16 a further year down the line.
