Higgins was disappointing, just missed too many easy chances. I guess it's more proof that a very good season can work against you at the WC. He just had nothing left. I wouldn't be surprised if the same happens to Ding now.
It's great to have a couple of unexpected players in the QF, but the downside is that this quarter has now probably become irrelevant in the context of the tournament. If Robertson loses today, it will leave two players without a realistic chance of winning the title. Kind of similar to last year, when the top quarter was left with Day and Allen in the QF, but perhaps even more unexpected.

What a wonderful result for Steve!
I was amazed at how easy he made made those long screw shots look. He does not seem to strike the cueball as hard as others do.
Fabulous cueing - almost like the way he used to play.
Bet the nerves were going some, on the last pink.

I think the turning point was that horrible kick John suffered on the blue, in the 20th frame. Had he potted this blue, he was on roll and I couldn't see him lose at 10-10. But Lady Luck was on Steve's side on this shot!
Tough defeat to swallow for John but he was, as usual, gracious in defeat. Steve played fantastically well and fully deserves this ticket for the quarters. What a great player he is, and a great person....Ton Praram III Series 1 | 58" 18.4oz 9.4mm | ash shaft + 4 splices of Brazilian Rosewood | Grand Cue medium tips

He would still need to get to the final to get into the top16, or possibly even win the championship if both Perry and Dott get good results as well.
But it does help his provisional ranking for the start of next season. He was outside the top32 if he lost this match, but somewhere around 29th now. Still far from the top16 though.
