You could have said the same thing before Davis played Higgins and look what happened there.

    Let's just wait and see..

I was pretty certain that we would be seeing a Higgins-Robertson QF, or at least Higgins-Fu. If I only looked at the results here, I could conclude that Higgins was probably out of sorts, while Robertson did his part. But it's not that simple...

Robertson didn't produce his best either, so he could easily have been out as well in different circumstances. But he survived an almost impossible situation, and that could work in his favour at the business end of this tournament. He showed against O'Brien that his tactical game is now more than adequate to compete for this title, and he showed against Gould that he has tremendous heart and fighting spirit, which could definitely come handy over three or four sessions now. His potting seems to be pretty good as well, and it can hold up under pressure, like it did towards the end of his match against Gould.

But one thing that isn't quite there is his scoring. Robertson has a tremendous ability to pot his way out of trouble, but I think he's at his best when he doesn't really have to rely on that so much. He has scored the most centuries out of any player this season, particularly impressively at the Grand Prix, so he does have great scoring power at his disposal. It's only a question if he can find his touch this week. I think he possibly could, as he seems to generally improve towards the end of tournaments. He has surprisingly avoided other top16 players in the first three rounds here, so he still has plenty of time to raise his game.

Davis is obviously a big underdog, but he has shown in that first session against Higgins that he can be very dangerous when he is fully concentrated. He potted a lot of tricky balls there, and made some good breaks. As for his safety, that's rarely in question. On one hand, it could be a good tactic to play a safety-dominated game against Robertson, to keep him from getting into a scoring rhythm. But on the other hand, Robertson has great stamina in that type of situations, so his standard doesn't really drop when frames or matches last long. I don't think there is much chance of Davis playing three consistently good sessions, but you never know. His record against Robertson isn't too bad either, so he knows he can compete.

Robertson doesn't like morning sessions, so I think it will be pretty even this morning, but I expect Robertson to turn the match in his favour tonight. 13-7ish sounds about right.

I agree. Matches are won or lost on the baize.. Many tipped King for a comfortable win, then everybody thought Higgins would only drop a couple of frames against Davis, but they got wrong, myself included..

I wouldn't be shocked if Steve Davis shows another strong performance today.

Thats true,Higgins didn't play well but don't you wonder why?
It was Davis that made Higgins play that bad.
His good safety play and also his slow playing put higgins completely out of pace.
It was not luck and i am sure robertson will have the same problem too!!

Strange how people think this will be a complete walkover.

In the opening 8 frames against Higgins, Davis had a pot success rate of like 95% and outscored him in every conceivable department. In those eight frames he played the best Snooker out of anyone in the tournament so far. Yes the other sessions weren't quite so good, but he did enough to win.

Don't write him off so quick.

If the player formerly known as the nugget can make a good start, then he can beat robertson, no doubt about that.

well Davis needs to get a frame on the board and soon, otherwise Robbo could unfortunately run away with it.

Still I have faith in Davis..

Steve needs to get at least 3 of the next 4 frames to have a chance of staying in the match! robbo means business!

Doesn't like morning sessions, you say?

Could someone watching give a short recap of the match so far?
Robbo's potting is so good he doesn't need to bother with positional play like the rest of the players. He laughs in the face of those who spend hours on the practice table perfecting their cue ball control! ~ Forman
