they say you cant beat ronnie at his best but the fact is when anyone starts putting in a performance against him his standards drop and the same excuses get banded about.

he got beat, barcelona got beat. the best dont always win. even at their best.

dont anyone dare try to dampen what mark achieved tonight, he has to be favourite for the title now!

    C'mon Selby!!!
    Well said!
    Slow on t'uptake since 1992.

        Even with Robertson? Come on.
Robbo's potting is so good he doesn't need to bother with positional play like the rest of the players. He laughs in the face of those who spend hours on the practice table perfecting their cue ball control! ~ Forman

        • I always disliked Selby, with his childish and boring sense of so called humor and his fist punching after every win and so on...but now i officially hate him!
Of course that Ronnie played crap today and not deserved to win, no question about that...

I really hope that Robertson gets the title now!!! He´s the only one left in the tournament that really deserves it! Go Neil!!!

Love his play but sorry as a person i ,m disliking him more every time i see him throw a wobbly

He wont be happy until he alienates himself from everyone
            Unfortunately it will never happen.

Ronnie's loyal army of erm... supporters will always forgive him every time he slaps snooker in the face, as has been proved countless times in the past, and the WPBSA won't kill their golden goose. To some people, any element of petulance, arrogance or immaturity from O'Sullivan is simply a sign of his troubled genius. His fanatics are always quick to point out what he has given the game, but what about what the game has given him? It's a tragedy that so much talent went to someone so undeserving, no class at all.

I'm delighted that Mark got through, he's a fantastic player and a class act.

            • After seen this match I think cleaning the cue ball should be limited. Selby might be a good player but pretty boring to watch in my opinion.

The way to fight Ronnie is to get him bored I think.

                • Congratulations to Mark Selby, he played brilliantly and held his nerves to come back from 9-11 to win 13-11. Ronnie never looked comfortable tonight and in particular after the MSI.
Just coming out of their press conference. Ronnie was more cheerful than he had been in any of the previous ones. He was clearly relieved the struggle was over. The press conference was "shortened" because he was "fetched" for some other duty ... his last words leaving the room were that Mark Selby played very well, very well, with thumb up and a big smile.
Mark was of course very happy to be through. He said that being now the bookies favourite won't change anything for him or his game plan. He also expressed his pleasure at seing Graeme Dott back to form after the personal problems he's gone through and he's looking forward to the match. Asked if there were any hard feelings between Ronnie and him he denied there was any. Actually they don't know each other that well. Needle on the table doesn't mean hard feelings off the table.
Also Ronnie just said during his press conference he still loves the game, always will and wants to stay involved even if he doesn't "need" it like he did when he was younger.

                  • For the record, Ray Reardon said the exact same thing to a referee in the world champs one year, so it's not just Ronnie. Even Dennis Taylor has argued with referees in the past.

But yeah, he overreacted and I thought he should have been warned, but he wasn't and he calmed down, so let's just congratulate Selby on another excellent win

                    • Congratulations to selby for the excelent fight back. I'm glad that we'll watch a fully determined player in the semis instead of a bored snooker genius. Selby a strong favorite for the title now, and he deserves it.

                      • probably a good thing ronnie went out, because the same thing would of happened against dott.

Selby didn't deserve to win it.
Well... I wouldn't put it like that myself.

Selby didn't really play well, nothing like his Masters comeback, and you could say he would definitely be out if he played like that against Dott for example.

But he gave everything he had tonight, and he deserved what he got. Kind of like Davis did against Higgins. O'Sullivan must seem like a larger than life character to his opponents, so I have nothing but respect for the (few) players who can stand up to him like that.

                          • Delighted for Mark, thought that he fully deserved the win and was glad that he was able to get the job done. Keen to see a new winner this year and would like to see him up against Robertson in the final, though that is by no means a formality.

Can definitely see where you are coming from Mon, the whole tournament did seem to be a struggle for him for whatever reason, indeed arguably the whole season.

Interesting that Selby has now defeated O'Sullivan in three big matches from well behind though, needle or not, I think that's often enough to suggest that he is in his head a little...
