Has he been bombed out?! I can only remember him doing one match (was it Ebdon v Dott?) whereas 'newbie' Scullion has had plenty of (big) matches and I presume Tabb and Verhaas will have the semis with Williams having the Final? Even Martel seems to have been more involved!

Pete isn't exactly a young man and the referees work is extremely demanding; there is much more to it than just reffing the matches. He was there to work in round 1 and that's what was agreed from the start.

Oh I understand that refs have a lot of work...just pleased to here that he is still around!!

On the subject of refs, I was pleased to see Len Ganley at the Crucible last night...he's aged, no doubt, but in the circumstances looked very well

Leo Scullion, Brendan Moore, Colin Humphries and Terry Camilleri were the referees of the quarter finals. Jan and Michaela are doing the semis and Eirian is doing the final. My questions are, why did Pete only do 2 first round games? How come Marteel came over half-way through the tournament and do one second round match? Why didn't Pete do a 2nd round game?

I guess Marteel was delayed due to the flight situation? Indeed, did Williamson only officate at all because Marteel, Verhaas and Camilleri were delayed?

Yeah. I think the flight situation had some impact on Jan and Terry arriving on time for the beginning, hence why Pete stood in.

Verhass and Calimari were delayed and Marteel arrived at his scheduled time. Peter Williamsons picture appears in the program so he was always going to be there. The Refs who were there took on extra matches to cover for their absence.
