  • Quarter final scheduling

The scheduling of the quarter finals seems a little unfair: QF1 gets Tuesday Morning and Evening then Wedensday afternoon. QF2 gets Tuesday afternoon then Wednesday morning and evening, both of these are quite reasonable. QF3 however has Tuesday morning with a potentialy late finish and then back on Wednesday morning. QF4 has Tuesday afternoon and then consecutive sessions Wednsesday afternoon and evening. Not sure why they schedule them this way, they could easily play QF3 in all the same sessions as QF1 and same for QF4 with QF2. A few years ago there used to be a second round match that went Saturday afternoon - Sunday evening - Mondary morning and another that went Sunday afternoon - Monday afternoon - Monday evening, they changed that so they could do the same with the quarter-fianls.

They do this every year, for a straightforward reason: It is so that there is no possibility of a very short session on both tables on the Wednesday afternoon.

If both QF1 and QF3 are, say, at 11-5 overnight, you would be guaranteed only 2 frames on each table. This way, the afternoon session is more-or-less guaranteed a full session on Table 2, so if the other finishes very early the dividing wall can be raised and the spectators will see a full session of snooker.
